Here is a windows service that will kill your run away winword.exe processes after a configurable amount of time. http://www.spikesolutions.net/ViewSolution.aspx?ID=d288b399-24e0-4942-8ac4-2f78eda45469

Re: "First hit" very slow to respond: ASP.NET 2.0 / IIS6 / VPS
I had the same problem. The reason is that the application domain times out every 20 mins if there is no activity, the first request after the timeout can force a recompile and reload of cache. Changing some settings in the machine.config file will solve the problem; unfortunately for me my hosting provider would not allow me to make this change. I found this utility to be useful. http://www.spikesolutions.net/ViewSolution.aspx?ID=c2b7edc0-5de1-4064-a432-05f6eded3b82 Essentially it "Pings"

Re: I want to know why asp.net page load slow when it loads first time
After my ASP.NET website sits idle for more than 20 mins the next request is very slow. The reason is that the application domain is flushed from IIS and the application needs to be recompiled. I found this utility to be handy. http://www.spikesolutions.net/ViewSolution.aspx?ID=c2b7edc0-5de1-4064-a432-05f6eded3b82 Basically it continuously "pings" your website in affect keeping it "alive".
