Re: SQL Server Management Studio
Installing Powershell will not cause your PC to crash. You can safely install powershell and remove it afterwards if you need it. I'll try to setup a SSMS 2008 express, will post screenshots later this week.

Re: SQL Server Enterprise Manager
In SQL Server 2005, Query Analzyer and Enterprise Manager is now packaged into a one app called "SQL Server Management Studio". If you don't see Management Studio in your SQL 2005 installation, most likely Management Studio didn't installed to due a shared component called "Office Web Components". Please refer to the following: http://forums.asp.net/t/1366773.aspx

Re: SQL server 2005 Developers Edition : Management Studio
SQL Server Management Studio is not installing due to a shared component called "Office Web Components" (OWC). Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > and remove "Microsoft Office Web Components". Then trying re-installing Management Studio.

Re: SQL server not found
Couple things to verify: Database Server name (try to use IP as well) If Database is setup using named instance or default instance? Port Number that SQL Services runs on (Default: 1433) Authentication (Windows VS SQL Authentication)

Re: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Web.Administration, Version=7.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35'
You have IIS 6 running and you want to manage IIS 6 web server using IIS7 Manager? Is that correct? http://www.iis.net/downloads/default.aspx?tabid=34&g=6&i=1626 I believe IIS7 manager only works with IIS7 webserver (See above link).

Re: Restoring build properties
Then it truely seems like a temporary glitch with Visual Studio. Have you tried restarting Visual Studio and/or your Machine? If nothing works, try creating a new empty project and manually add all the project files (aspx, asmx, ascx, web.config, .vb/.cs, etc)

Re: Restoring build properties
Make sure all of the controls on aspx page has runat="server". Each aspx page also need the following on top of each page that uses code-behind: <%@ Page Language="C#" CodeFile="SampleCodeBehind.aspx.cs" Inherits="SomeNamespace.SomeClassName" AutoEventWireup="true" %>
