Re: using SqlDatASource programmatically - output parameters

how to show first few characters of a field in GridView?
Hi all, i am pritty new @ asp.net. i am using a grid view which shows the data from XML file. i want to show only first say 10 or 20 characters of a field. I mean can I use a function instead of a filed name something like: < asp : BoundField HeaderText ="Exception Description" DataField = ShowFirst10Chars(ExceptionDscr) SortExpression = "ExceptionDscr" /> and Function will return something like: ShowFirst10Chars=Left(ExceptionDscr,10) or simply can I replace field name with Left(ExceptionDscr
