  You can set the vBulkData.BulkCopyTimeout property to a larger number of seconds than the default of 30. I don't think that Microsoft take into account the size of databases in the real world. The 30 seconds is fine for AdventureWorks tables but try it with a sales ledger transaction file and you've got problems !

  I hit the same problem today. I was trying to add a new database table to a project that's been around for about three years and couldn't understand why the new tableadapter class was not appearing in Intellisense. Then I noticed that the designer class had been deleted. I tried this again but decided to try opening the designer before configuring the adapter.
