ASP.NET version on the hosting server - is this user configurable ?
I went to a few hosting providers' websites for price quotes. I've noticed that they did not allow me to choose what ASP.NET version (2.0/3.5) I want installed on the server. Is this something that I would install and configure myself once I buy the hosting service? Or am I forced to use the version the hosting place has? I've never gone through this hosting process, so please forgive the ignorance. For example, if I do all my development work using ASP.NET 3.5 only to find out the hosting

Does the new ASP 3.5 AJAX address the rendering problem with the rounded corners "double refresh" ?
I haven't been developing with ASP/AJAX for a while and the last version I used was ASP.NET 2.0 with the AJAX add-on. The rounded corners extender had a problem where the panel would render on a browser with square corners first, then the screen refreshed and finally showed the rounded corners. It looked very unprofessional and this problem occurred in both IE and Firefox. Does the new ASP 3.5 AJAX correct this problem? Thanks.

What is this feature that is demonstrated in the ANIMATIONS demo - is it like a giant tooltip ?
If you go here - http://www.asp.net/AJAX/AjaxControlToolkit/Samples/Animation/Animation.aspx , click on the "click here" button to force the animation. Then hover the mouse cursor over the "show" and "close" hyperlinks (or linkbuttons). A giant tooltip-like window becomes visible. Is this just a lot of content that was shoved into a regular tooltip? Or is this another AJAX extender like HOVERMENU or something, or is it another ANIMATION derivative?

How to keep RETURNURL when accessing a secure page, yet disable it when logging in explicitly ?
I have a loginstatus control on my masterpage so that a user would have the ability to login no matter what page of the website he is on. When he clicks on that, it brings him to the login page with the login control. I explicitly hardcoded a specific page for the destinationpageurl attribute of the login control, but it seems the returnurl overrides that setting. It seems the returnurl is set for the page I was previously on. Why is the returnurl being set if I wanted to just login explicitly? How

Re: What MS SQL data type should be used for storing things like forum posts ?
If you are concerned with foreign languages (i.e., not English :), and yes, that's very American of me. :) ), you may want to consider nvarchar(max) or ntext. You will find that varchar/nvarchar are much easier to code against, as all the built in functions work with them just the way you think they should. You have to balance that with the fact that text/ntext allow much longer descriptions. Choose your poison! :)
Hi David - question..... I'm

Re: AJAX issue - every page makes an extra postback to render the Rounded Corners correctly
I take it there's no clear-cut fix for this issue? I can't believe they would release something that would leave this feature looking very unprofessional. The page flickers on loading and you can see the rendering from square to rounded corners between the flickers.

Re: How to dynamically feed in lat/long into Google Maps embedded on your page ?
Thanks NC. It's been a long while since I've programmed and I don't consider myself an experienced programmer so please forgive the ignorance. These 2 Property blocks sit outside of the Page_Load sub and on the same level as Page_Load, right? I understand how the GET part is placed in those 2 Propertys. But shouldn't the SET part be in Page_Load under an isPostBack = False if block, right after I initially query the database and get the value I need? Also, the first block you wrote

Re: How to dynamically feed in lat/long into Google Maps embedded on your page ?
Thanks for your reply NC. Looking through some of the pages that I'd coded, I noticed that a couple of times, I had to fetch data from a function in the code-behind to feed into my main aspx page (I did this a few times when I binded some items inside a datalist and the binded values were not in presentable form yet, so I had to go to my code-behind and modify the data). My project is in VB language btw. Would something like this work as well in this situation? All I need to do is to embed a

How to dynamically feed in lat/long into Google Maps embedded on your page ?
I'm looking into embedding a small Google Map into some of my aspx pages on my website. Basically, I want to have a Google Map shown on every one of my member pages, with the map centered based on their zip code. 1) How would I get the map on my page to begin with? Do I just stick the following snippet of code (just an example) into my aspx page after I register for a key? <script src= http://maps.google.com/maps?file=..................... type="text/javascript"></script>

Re: Do search engine crawlers index ASPX pages as effectively as HTML ?
As long as you use the standard validators or other good validators, it will already be addressed, since they all provide server validation. The client side validation part is just for user convenience. Of course you have to check the IsValid property, before submitting anything to the database.
Thanks gunteman. I was always under the impression that the standard ASP.NET validators provided in the VWD toolbox were only client-side validators (hence, they
