Converting 2003 mdb's to 2007 accdb's..MDE's and .AccDE's
I did my homework before posting this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814858 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283788 http://forums.asp.net/search/SearchResults.aspx?q=.mde&o=Relevance http://forums.asp.net/p/534309/534309.aspx#534309 I upgraded from Office 2003 to Office 2007, installed SP1 and SP2 and several other reccomended D/L's from the site onto my XP Pro laptop and can run MDB's in native mode on Access 2007, but it won't let me.MDE them.. "Can't create the file.

Re: Access / SQL reserved (special) chars..easiest issue of the day.
Mike : Sorry for not getting back to you sooner..it was a holiday (memorial day) in the U.S. I took off from work for awhile for a change and a rest ..looking at my funds later, I was left with some change and the airlines / hotel / resturants/bars got the rest ... turns out the crash was due to different string lengths..the longer strings had (+-/*) in them just by pure coincidence..I marked your response above as the answer. Once again, you're the best! Thanks again.. Brian

Re: Access / SQL reserved (special) chars..easiest issue of the day.
Mike: Thanks for getting back so quick. The reason I think its attempting to do math is that conventional strings like 'This is a test' work fine..when I try to UPDATE a record with any + - / * in it, that's when it dies. The DB is Access 2007. Thanks again...

Access / SQL reserved (special) chars..easiest issue of the day.
Well, I tried to search the forum first before posting..but on what?.. I've been doing SQL strings for YEARS and this one has me stumped. I need to read/write an inventory description field of the form "DX - 123" or "AX/123-00" and even tho I'm using single quotes in the string the interpreter is attempting to treat them as a mathematical operation..?!..? Update table set invnum='dx-123' where... also tried a string var: " Update table set invnum="&

duplicating child records in SQL databases
I searched both MSDN and the forums here before asking this. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa635694.aspx http://forums.asp.net/p/1369603/2857821.aspx#2857821 I'm looking for a simple way to dupe child table records with the new primary index once a new parent record has been created. This allows dupe records to be created w/o having to re-enter each field. I'd like to avoid creating an ADO.net recset and: For i=1 to .reccount..INSERT..Next Thanks...
