  I too am experiencing this same problem. Although for me, it has never worked right. I created my own MembershipProvider class that inherited from Membership Provider. So...getting on with my story: I did a little bit of Response.Write() to get some values. The username and password retrieved from the login control was correct, and the MembershipProvider value was set correctly.
