  As you can tell from looking through the numerous posts here, there are many different scenarios that can cause this, and it happens in many different circumstances. If you're having this issue, you would be best off to open a support incident with us so that we can look into it. Jim

  Hi Adam, I'll group item A and B into one because they are really both addressed by the same action on our part. I have filed a change on the article to include the "could not load file or assembly" error. I appreciate the comment on that because it's something I should have done before. Regarding a download of the fix, we don't ever provide fixes at this stage for public download. I realize it would be a lot easier to just click a link and get it, but you can call to get it within just a few minutes

  There is never a charge to deliver a hotfix to you.

  You must call PSS for the hotfix. You can find the number by visiting http://support.microsoft.com .

  You can't download the hotfix. You have to call us and we can provide it to you.

  Keep in mind that even though the hotfix didn't work for one person, it might fix it for another. :) If anyone can provide an application that reproduces this for us, it would be tremendously helpful.

  Hi Tom, You say that it only happens on postback. What is your page doing on postback that you don't do on initial load? Do you access the SQL Server on initial (non-postback) load of the page as well?

  Glad it's fixed. The most common cause of this is a request for both www.site.com and site.com or something similar. When you request www.site.com , it will create a cookie for that domain. When you request site.com, IE will consider that a different domain (which, technically, it is) and will set another cookie. It's an interesting anomoly in how IE handles that, but it's by-design.
