  • Re: DNN websites - slow?

Thanks everyone for your advice. I was just a bit cautious seeing all these sluggish performances, and hopefully following basic optimization steps things will be improved. I do agree though that majority of DNN portals are not optimized at all and "feels" very heavy to respond after each click. Gleb

I agree with you on these points, initial on-access startup of heavy ASP and overshared "shared" hosting plans. The one would never know how many shared hosting plans are running from the same machine and apparently the less you pay - probably the more "sharing" you are with lord knows how many people. Even PowerDNN's $100/mo plan is still "shared" I beleive. For the same money the one could lease dedicated server at GoDaddy and be in full control of everything via remote desktop. I think this is

  • DNN websites - slow?

How much time you have to wait when clicking on your DNN site first time? For some reason I noticing 10-20 seconds initial delay in explorer until front page of my site starts appearing. Is this a problem with my hosting provider or this is what DNN+ASP functionality requires to make initial spin-up? My test sites are: DNN 3.2.2 : http://dnn3.c.gg DNN 4.02 : http://dnn4.c.gg Both of them giving me 10-20 seconds initial delay. Gleb

  • Re: Error updating site settings.

I found that procedure to properly install DNN greatly depends on hosting provider. My provider ( www.webhost4life.com ) installs 4.x version manually, although to install 3.2.2 I use their control panel. www.1and1.com has their own instructions regarding DNN which includes quite a bit more customizations of web.config file. If you install locally or have dedicated server hosting - it would be easier to follow standard procedures, I guess. In any case - contact suppurt of your provider regarding

  • Re: DotNetNuke 3.2.2 vs 4.x

PS: I reinstalled DNN 4.x totally clean and now it all working. I couldn't figure out what was the problem, but apparently something didn't went smoothly first time during install. Anyways - now all problems seems to be gone! Gleb

  • Re: Error updating site settings.

Followup: I had my hosting provider to reinstall everything in a new clean directory and now everything works like a charm! I think DNN package must have some sort of internal "sanity" check to ensure clean install, presence of all modules and verify to availablity of database, proper settings of WEB.CONFIG file and presence of necessary permissions. This DNN self-test would save lots of grief and unnecessary posts in the forums. Gleb

  • DotNetNuke 3.2.2 vs 4.x

I just want to share my experiences with DNN. I opened hosting account at hosting provider that support DNN installation of both versions (3.x and 4.x) via their control panel. As a beginner of DNN I installed the latest 4.x version and started to have more problems than words in this post. Virtually every step came with errors, exceptions, problem with creating and updating portals and weird behavior of admin and host accounts (absense of "admin" menu, inability to logout without closing browser
