Re: SPLA Licensing misunderstood ?
Hi Curt, Take a look to DNP (www.dotnetpanel.com) for provisioning all services, except Exchange. It uses own provisioning engine, and it can use SQL Express (free) for it’s databases. I am not sure, but it seems SharePoint can use SQL Express too. Check it at SharePoint homepage ;) Take a note that you should pay for SQL if you provide data hosting for your customers (e.g your customers place SQL 2000 or SQL 2005 databases on your servers). Thank you, Ilya.

Re: Consolidate for Exchange Hosting
Theoretically you can. Because - both those services are stateless so they could be Network Load Balansed - in full solutions all them are load balanced. But it seems nobody here tried to use NLB in consolidated HMC. On my opinion, the best way for you is: - Deploy Consolidated Server exactly as described in documentation. - Take a note of all steps related to FE01 while deploying - Check that solution is working correct in standard implementation - Add FE02 and repeat for FE02 all steps you noted

Re: HMC 4.0
Thank you, Jenni! I am very glad to know we could reuse our job somehow… Anyway we will not wait for HMC 4 CP and will create some custom plug-ins, because it seems we will upgrade to HMC 4.x late 2007 or early 2008. We use consolidated deployment. BTW, don’t you – will it upgrade path for consolidated deployment realized? And when? WBR, Ilya.

Re: Restrict customer administrator the limit of create users
Hi, At least you can archive this goal by combining m ailstore megabytes assigned to org with mailbox quotes in service plans. Resource Manager will not let your create, for example, more than 10 mailboxes with “100 Mb mailbox size service plan” in org, which have 1000 Mb mailstore assigned. This is not exact answer to your question, but I suppose that you are thinking about mailstore space saving, not about limiting number of mailboxes ;) I don’t see business reason to limit number of mailboxes

Re: HMC 4.0
Does anyone know if custom provisioning website (MPS based), created for HMC 3.5, will work with HMC 4.x? We are going to create some additional MPS based plugins for SampleCP, to extend its functionality. We are worrying about – will it be reusable with HMC 4.x. MPS… Thank you, Ilya.

Re: SPLA Licensing misunderstood ?
Hi, Manual provisioning is – install “naked” Exchange without MPS, get customers requests by e-mail and create mailbox-enabled users with ADUC :) And then, when you decide to pay for MPS – install it and migrate manually created users to MPS. Surely it is not good way, and totally it is more expensive than to install clear full solution from the scratch, and pay for MPS from the beginning, even you do not have profitable number of customers. BTW, it seems those payments (ISA, MPS, MOM) does not let

Re: SPLA Licensing misunderstood ?
Hi, I am not SPLA specialist, but unfortunately I deal with this boring thing… All information is my IMHO, without any warranties :) If you provide “full access” Exchange mailboxes, you must report at least Exchange and Windows Server usage: Exchange usage F09-00018 (Hstd Exchange Std PlusSAL All Lng Lic/SA Pack MVL) X number of subscribers Windows server usage P73-03408 (Windows Svr Std All Lng Lic/SA Pack MVL SAL) X number of subscribers or P73-00978 (Windows Svr Std All Lng Lic/SA Pack MVL 1 Proc

Re: SPLA and Exchange 2003 Media
Hi, My Software Spectrum manager have sent me document (simple one slide Power Point presentation), where I could find exact mapping: Exchange features you provide to customers a <> Exchange 2003 SKUs <> Exchange 2007 SKUs. I am not sure I can publish this document here, so I only inform you that such a document exist and you can ask it from your SPLA reseller. Thank you, Ilya.

Re: Sample CP logon speed
Thank you, Steve! I will try both methods next week and report here… However I will be very glad to hear you opinion about creating separate pool, simple because I have no lab, but only production environment :) WBR, Ilya.

Sample CP logon speed
Hi, I use Consolidated HMC. And I still use MPS Sample CP from Consolidated Server Package Sometimes first logon to CP is very slow. But if I immediately log off and log on again – it fast. While researching it, I found that Sample CP uses DefaultAppPool. For DeafultAppPool checkbox located in Performance tab > Idle timeout “Shutdown worker process after being idle for (time in minutes)” is checked and set to 20. I have few customers organizations, so situation when nobody use applications from
