Re: Common SQL Server Express problem that I can't seem to solve
Thanks very much, Iori - still battling! After another day and a half of it - and lots of interesting posts from all over the place (it's even more common that I thought)- it looks as if it's related to having both SQL Server Express and SQL Server 2005 on the same machine. I'll come back with a final answer - once I've found it. Here are some links (in random order) that have solved the problem for some people: http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/showpost.aspx?postid=98346&siteid=1 http://forums

Common SQL Server Express problem that I can't seem to solve
Hi Guys, [VS2005, .NET 2.0 SQL Server Express] I could really use some help with this one - as in desperately!: I have a couple of database projects which run fine in Debug Mode from VS2005, but I can't get them to run outside of it. The problem is that, for some reason, the login to the database file isn't succeeding. I'm getting the following errors: .NET Project: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the

Re: How to convert a SQL Server 2005 Database to SQL Server Express
'Couldn't solve the problem that I was experiencing, but did manage to get what I wanted done: Detach SQL Server 2005 Database. Copy .MDF and .LDF to new location. Change connection string in web.config 'Thought it was easy - just didn't realise that it would be that easy! 'Hope this helps some other novice(s). We have, as a civilisation, to solve the problem of IT being so inaccessible to novices. It's ridiculous how many things turn out to be easy - once you know what to do - but virtually impossible

How to convert a SQL Server 2005 Database to SQL Server Express
Hi, I have a SQL Server 2005 Database that I would like to export to SQL Server Express. How do I go about this? I've tried backing it up, creating a new (blank) SQL Server Express Database and trying to restore it, but get the following message: TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio ------------------------------ Restore failed for Server 'PRODSOL-LAPTOP1\SQLEXPRESS'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00

Looking for a fully-featured Commercial Treeview Control
Hi Guys, Can anyone point me to an AJAX-enabled commercial treeview control that supports object databinding? I need most of the features that the popular commercial treeviews have, especially run-time node add/delete/rename/moveup/movedown/promote/demote. Object databinding support is critical. Thanks very much. Regards Gary

Re: SQL Server 2005 Installation problems with SQL Server Express & SQL Server 2000
Thanks, Iori. Finally got it sorted. After installing SQL Server 2005 + SP1 and Visual Studio 2005 - and being unable to install SQL Server Express - I installed VWD Express, which installs SQL Server Express. After a bit of tweaking and hacking (e.g. deleting C:\Documents and Settings\ username \Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS), I managed to get it all working.... I have to say that I'm astounded that it should be so hard - I don't want my clients to

Re: SQL Server 2005 Installation problems with SQL Server Express & SQL Server 2000
OK. So I tried to uninstall everything as specified, in the link Iori offered. Not everything was uninstalled, so I had to manually uninstall things within the registry. Two days later, everything is fine. I seem to have a SQL Server 2005-free, Sql Server Express-Free, Visual Studio Pro-Free and Visual Studio Express-Free system. I'm amazed that this can be so difficult - and stressed about the loss in productivity, but hey: at least I have a clean system and can start from scratch, right? I decide

Thanks, Iori! SqlWb.exe isn't anywhere on my machine, so I guess I'll have to uninstall everything and give it another go. Grrr! Regards Gary

SQL Server 2005 Installation problems with SQL Server Express & SQL Server 2000
Hi Guys, I have had SQL Server Express and Sql Server Management Studio Express installed on my machine for some time and recently tried to install a trial of SQL Server 2005 as well. (Yes, I'm migrating from Visual Studio Express to Visual Studio Professional, just as in tended!) Everything went fine except that nothing seemed to be installed. I searched in all the obvious places - both on the Start/Programs menu and on the hard-drive: nothing. A check under Add/Remove Programs showed that Sql Server

Re: How to validate controls on a .NET 2.0 Web user Control
This is going to amuse you-all: I found out that Azam is exactly right. Validation of Web User Controls in ASP.NET 2.0 works exactly as one would expect - automatically, by Validation Group name. My mistake was elsewhere - and got hidden in the mess. As I said in my last post, I created a fresh WebUserControl and found that it worked first-time. I then used it on the web-page I was having trouble with and found that it worked there too. So why didn't my original WebUserControl work? Perhaps it was
