  • Migrating child portal to new installation AND 4.0 from 3.2

Friends, My goal is to move a child portal created in 3.2.2 into its own installation and upgrade it to DNN 4.0. What is the best way to accomplish this? Should I do a fresh install of 4.0 on the new installation then use a portal template created from the 3.2 site? Or should I install 3.2 on the new site, get it going, then upgrade? Also can you just ftp all of your module folders into the desktopmodule folder of 4? Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Willie in Maine, USA

  • Re: the best host for DNN in this moment?

Hi, We have decided to go with discountasp.com. I will let you know how it goes. I forgot to mention that godaddy was WICKED slow with dnn on shared server (deluxe hosting they call it) . It took as much as 50 seconds to load the dnn page. I will say that they were great and helpful with domains, transfers, etc., just lousy for hosting a dnn site. Thanks for all of your emails suggesting providers. Thanks, Willie Maine, USA

Hi, I have been researching this issue after having a very disappointing experience trying to get dnn going at godaddy. Permissions, installation, etc. have been a nightmare. I have not been able to upload modules and have been trying for 2 weeks to get it figured out. Look at this quote from a support email: Dear Sir/Madam, Thank you for contacting customer support. Unfortunately, we are unable to troubleshoot coding, scripting, or database issues. I am bailing on Godaddy and still not quite sure

G'day Anthony, It did not come through in original post but all permissions are checked saved for 'browse'. Could you please give specific details on configuring web.config to run as a specific user? The top of my web.config file is as follows: <configuration> <!-- register local configuration handlers --> <configSections> <sectionGroup name="dotnetnuke"> <section name="data" type="DotNetNuke.Framework.Providers.ProviderConfigurationHandler, DotNetNuke" /> <section
