  • Re: Windows Authentication for DNN3.0

Good luck, I find that Tam hardly ever responds on the forums.

It doesn't work and Tam hardly ever responds... I would recommend not using it...

The membership provider is a good example of Dotnetnuke helping them. The Core asked them to make changes then went on to prove that it works

Why are you calling it a myth, where is support for DNN? These forums? I have seen many, many questions and issues logged on this forum that never get answered and it's joke to think you can get any "timely" questions answered here. Since DNN is open source, it's up to you support yourself or wait for the core team, during their off hours to possible post an answer. Then when you get an answer it's usually something like, "well, there are so many situtations, we just can't change that" or "We'll

Well, Today it was decided that we will not use DNN as portal solution, due to the fact that there is no built in support for Windows Authentication. I mean yes, one can use Tam’s Module if you are just running one portal, but in our case that was not the environment that we had, also compounded with the fact that you can't share users across multiple portals without buying some third party module that attempts to hack at the core. Tam, I think what you’ve done is good; at least to “fake” DotNetNuke

Clearly it's not Mrs, just using the nickname you choose... Anyway, I believe alot of people post here looking for answers but never find them. In the process of writing my ADSI module... I am looking over what Tam has done... One thing his document states is that it supports "authentication" for child portals, but this seems like a half truth... Yes, it does if the user(s) does not exists currently for say the parent portal... If the user does exist it doesn't authenicate the user against the child

Mrswoop, Please do not be upset, life is too short and I know there are many other things in the world that could be a lot worse than getting code for some module. I apologize if I came off as "snit”, that was not my intention. It’s probably more frustration at trying to use DNN as an intranet solution within our organization and finally finding a module that would do windows security integration (or at least fake DNN to think so). I am not trying to be a leech nor do I want something for nothing

Tamttt, Thanks for finally responding the the community. It seems that your concept of what "open source" means is a little strange, but I'll talk about that in a second. Your last post which was about 2 months ago, you stated: " It would be helpful if someone here could collect all questions/answers, put it all together as FAQ, and post it somewhere for new members can get answer their own, before asking it again & again here." Well it seems like that the core team now has the "Gemini" setup

What's the use in getting ASP.NET V2 out the door when it's broken right now?

Kennsterdude, I couldn't agree with your more... They tout this membership in 3.0 as gold, however, it has made things more complex and I think constrained the system... I think they were so excited about working with microsoft on this they basically, "pounded" a square peg into a round hole... Scott states the importance of Use Cases and always ask people to document them... Well where are the use cases when it was decided to "add" this great feature? Or was the use case, "microsoft" gave us this
