Re: Global.asax - how to use if for global GetText function
Are, Have you thought about creating a singleton/static object within your application's App_Code directory, or compiled into the rest of your project? I may not fully understand your question, but you could access the application cache from a static object. That way, you could have a simple MyText object or something (just don't conflict with another type name); MyText.GetText(...), without having to instantiate a new object every time you want to use the helper code. Let me know if you think this

Re: Health Monitoring - Question 2
I'm just updating this thread slightly for anyone who is searching for additional answers. Part of our repro work just pointed out that minInterval and minInstances affect the events you get: with a minInterval of 1 minute for instance, you could have many events of the same type fired and only one will get logged. This is by design, imagine getting a thousand pages if you had the mail provider going there! Still checking on the Sql provider stuff. - Jeff

Re: ASP.NET 2.0 and a PHP Iframe
Is the PHP application that you are referencing located on the same machine, or remotely? I don't think PHP will work with Cassini as it isn't going to use any ISAPI extensions such as PHP. Have you tried your same setup with IIS 6?

Re: Health Monitoring - Question 2
We've taken this repro and discussion offline to try to find a solution (which will be posted here once we understand it better). However, in the meantime, I would like to point out that we have released the Sql Provider source that may be of interest to many of you! I do get questions often on the provider pattern. http://msdn.microsoft.com/asp.net/downloads/providers/default.aspx?pull=/library/en-us/dnaspp/html/asp2prvdr01.asp - Jeff

Re: WebPart Personalization Stopped Working
Sounds like current user may not be logged in; perhaps the IIS settings for authentication are slightly different, and/or your web.config settings. There's another thread that might be of help for this: Check out http://forums.asp.net/thread/1237703.aspx Let me know how it goes. - Jeff

Re: Help out a PHP guy with generating an XML response...
Good luck; ASP.NET 2.0 is a great leap forward with its XHTML compliance.

Re: Help out a PHP guy with generating an XML response...
Glad it's getting closer to what you are going for. So this is only my opinion: The designer we have for web pages is amazing, can do so very much. The data source binding can enable some really rapid development for a lot of people. But at the lower level, the event-driven, control-based model of ASP.NET is where all the action is in my mind. Coming from a Perl and PHP background, I'm used to digging around at the low level - and I also like having complete control over output (I tend to use CSS

Re: Health Monitoring - Question 2
Hey jminond, Could you post the healthMonitoring/rules section, as well as the eventMappings, that your web.config is using? Chances are that not all mapped events are headed towards your provider. - Jeff

Re: Help out a PHP guy with generating an XML response...
Dusty, Glad to see that you'r trying out ASP.NET for this project. The event-driven model takes some getting used to, but I often find myself staring at a piece of PHP code and wishing that I could just use an ASP.NET form element! And you don't have to use the drag-and-drop controls unless you want to ;-). Anyway, if you're looking to get this to work right away, you can use the code behind file to add a method to help you out. You could also modify the SQL query to actually do the is-null comparisons
