  • Re: Bug? Unable to create new parent portals when having >300 - DNN3.01.00

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure that is the problem. Right now I simply cannot create any new portals. Could you verify that this was indeed fixed? When I go to add a parent portal, it simply hangs. I have about >300 portals and maybe something like 2500 tabs.

  • Bug? Unable to create new parent portals when having >300 - DNN3.01.00

Hello, I have a DNN setup with >300 portals on it. Some time ago I am unable to create any new portals. Basically when I go to create a new parent portal, when I hit submit it just hangs and my SQL process starts soaking up at least 1 full CPU of processing time. I think this started to happen somewhere between the 250-300th portal. When I check the portals database record, it appears things are partially created, however, things hang when adding the portal alias record. Any ideas on what could

It would be idea if I could automate the examining of the Hosts->Portals page, locate all portals with no PortalAlias and click the delete button. Can anybody help with this please? I'd even send a bribe your way if you wanted... :)

Hello! I'm trying to make a SQL script that will look at all the portals and locate a portals that have no PortalAlias and delete them completely, including everything in the Portals table as well as any other table. Could somebody help me with a script that will examine the Portals table, look up in the PortalsAlias table, and delete all portals that have no PortalAlias associated with them? PLZ AND MANY THX!!! :)

  • Re: DB Transaction Log is HUGE! What should I do?

Thanks for the tips W! So it sounds like I should keep on backing up my database (do it every day) but this time I should shrink the transaction log... Could you give me a quick howto on that plz? :)

  • DB Transaction Log is HUGE! What should I do?

Hello all, My database transaction log is something like 15 gigs now. Is there a way I can only keep minimal information in the transaction log, possibly limiting it to only 1 gig in size? Is there any downsides to doing this? I'm wondering what I should do now to address my huge log and what I can do to keep it down in size. Thanks in advance for all your help!

Thanks Nitro! Could you do me a favor and explain how to preserve and/or move the MachineValidationKey and MachineDecryptionKey from the old server to the new one? Thx!

Thanks for the info! One last thing... are the user's encrypted passwords have any sneakyness that needs to be accounted for? Will the new server be able to decrypt what is in the database or is that a machine-specific key? If it is, what is the secret to do this? Thx again in advance!!!

  • Re: Migrating DNN from one server to another

Thank you for the replies! The part that has me concerned is moving the database. What is the best way? Do I do a database backup, copy the file to the new server, then try to restore that backup? Before I restore it, do I need to create the new database right? Or what is the best way to do it? Thx :)
