Creating a single cookie for all Windows users on a client computer
Hi. I have a website that allows its administrators to drop a cookie on certain client computers that in turn allows only those computers to complete certain functions of the site. This works great except that the cookie "exists" only for the particular Windows user that was logged in when the cookie was created. A different Windows user's use of the website does not see the cookie. Again, this would be OK if that Windows user never changed. Unfortunately, I cannot control what user logs onto Windows

How to get the most out of expressions in SSRS 2000?
Hi. I am increasingly frustrated over my inablility to find much reference material on using expressions in SSRS 2000. In my WROX book, there is mention of the immediate if ( IIF ( condition ), true_action , false_action ) and I saw somewhere about a SWITCH statement, but I can find little else. I have been so spoiled by Crystal Reports very comprehensive programming tools, but I would really like to use SSRS. Can anyone direct me to a resource that provides a complete description / reference for

Reading (only) from a client computer registry using ASP.NET?
Hi. There have been questions about this in the past, but they are circa 2004 and I wonder if a new method has been developed. I would like to be able to install a registry key and value on several client computers (I will have access to them) that would "authorize" them for a function of my website. Thus, I need my website's code to be able to read this registry value on client computers and enable the function only if it finds it. Again, I am not looking for the website to write to the registry

Re: Preventing progammatically added webparts from entering personalization Db
Thanks. I have punted and stopped programmatically loading the web parts. Now I just maintain a group of role-specific home pages for my users that contain the appropriate static webparts. Interestingly, I set Personalization-Enabled to false on these and all is well. Thanks again.

Re: Preventing progammatically added webparts from entering personalization Db
Hmmm... wonder why there is a Personalization-Enabled property (that can be set to false) of the WebPartManager control then? Thanks for responding, though!!

Re: Preventing progammatically added webparts from entering personalization Db
OK, I found that I can disable personalization for a page by setting the to false the "Personalization-Enabled" property of the WebPartManager control on the page. However, when I do this, I get an error when trying to use the AddWebPart method in the Page_Load event on that page: "Personalization is not enabled and/or modifiable. The Enabled property must be set to true, and a registered personalization provider must be selected. The current user must be granted the right to modify personalization

Re: PasswordRecovery control failure - Bad AspNetSqlMemberhipProvider settings?
Hi. Sorry... I found it. I had inadvertently created an EmbeddedMailObject in the control, but left its value null, so it was complaining about that. Thanks for writing!!
