  • Re: DNN 4.0.3 and Flash

Mark, the long explination is that because Microsoft lost a lawsuit they published an upgrade to IE which will not auto play any plug-in module includeing Flash and Active X. The "click to activate" message is the result of the lawsuit. You have to use a different embed method to place the Flash object on the page that uses an external .js file to call the plug-in. You can find this method at Adobe.com or in the latest version (check for the update) to Dreamweaver.

  • Re: Official DotNetNuke Forum - Officially awful?

I agree with broomy. I am always frustrated by the DNN forum search. The results simply are not relvant. I return to the ASP.net forum to make sure I haven't missed something. I also find that the ASP.net forums have better topic grouping. I fall into the small developer & user categories. And I have hesitated from implementating the forums for any users as well. I find it too cumbersome to use.

  • Re: Looking for a GREAT webhosting referral for Dnn sites

We have 3 sites at WebSecureStores and we are going to pull all 3 in the next month because of WSS's refusal to support .flv files on their shared servers. I hope that all of you WebSecureStores supportors contact them immediately and let them know there is some demand for this service. A .flv file contains video that is played via a .swf, better know as Flash or the shockwave/Flash player. Think CNN, Google video, You Tube, etc. We also have issues with converting from shared accounts to the bulk

  • Re: Looking for Business Directory Module

One question to clear up my ocnfusion - Did you use the Repository that ships with DNN and customize the template? Or did you use a custom Repository module? Thanks, Tamara BTW - I appreciate your site ( http://dnndir.com ). The DNN community has grown so much so fast it can be hard to locate resources.

  • Re: Creating User Accounts from an E-mail list

I would like to follow up on this question - Is there a way to assign the e-mail address entered as the Username and then have the user log in with their e-mail address and password? I'm interested in either a hack or a module to purchase to do this. This is important to organizations that already have an established newsletter list or such and want to migrate to DNN. I have 2 clients who this applies to. One has 200 entries and the other 200,000. Thank you.

  • Re: Feedback: ResellersChoice hosting (dropping TacticalSystems)

I've used ResellerChoice since Feb05 and have not been dissapointed. The support replies are pretty fast through the admin ticket system. No call in support. I love that they will install or update DNN for $5. The time savings is worth it.

  • Problems with AVCalendar in DNN 3.1.1

I have not had problems installing AVCalendar until now. I upgraded a site from 2.1.2 to 3.1.1 that had AVCalendar installed. I did not delete the Calendar module prior to upgrading. When I ran the install for AVCal 3.10 it returned an error that the CalendarSignups table already had a key. I deleted the table and ran the installer again and it worked with no errors. I added the Calendar to a page and configured the options. But Add New returns an error that the CalendarSignups table is an Invalid

  • Re: APPLE MAC TEST needed on LinksByCategory module

Yes, it works well in both IE and Firefox on OS X 10.3. I hope that you inform the client that IE is the last browser they should be using. Development of IE Mac has been dead since 2002. Tamara

  • Re: How MUCH programming is truly needed?

It is my opinion that a "professional" site is the result of good graphic design. You may be buying a skin or creating your own, but it is the graphics which are noticed before the functionality. DNN, or available free modules, will give you 80% of the functionality needed without having to write any code. However, you will do a lot of work configuring modules, arranging pages, and thinking about those graphics. On the Engage Software site (creators of St Loius Childrens) the client showcase lists

  • Re: wwwCoder - Patrick Santry's Resource Directory Manager for DNN 3.1

Yes, there is an alternative. It is called Free Resource Directory and is even listed in the DNN Non-Core Modules list under Content Management. See http://www.dnnfreemodules.com/Projects/FreeResourceDirectory/tabid/62/Default.aspx.
