Re: Forums are in Decay

Yes, sometimes I think I should have some sort of disclaimer to accompany my posts :P I also have to point out that I always take the extreme view of anything that a person presents to others for their consumption. In business this is the well-known 'customer focus' viewpoint and that is the extreme view I have been taking here in this thread. On the subject of forum organisation; the analogy with the

As for everyone holding the keys, that is a pleasant and agreeable sentiment. J7Mitch wrote: Nothing has been abandoned that I am aware of. We continue to try and move forward that

Re: How to replicate a module?
Cool thanks for the info John, I'm using 4.03 at the moment so I'm guessing there must be a later one in the works. In any case, I feel comfortable enough now to go ahead with a multi-portal setup. Thanks heaps Rob

Re: Forums are in Decay
This is a short and simple answer to the forum problem: Do a survey of posts and users and use the results to determine how to sub-divide the forum. (Never sub-divide any forum that has fewer new threads per day than are visible on the first page - and that page should show at least 20 topics) Using the above data, reduce the 70-odd groups down to 2-4. (there is less than one thread per forum per day right now - less than 70 all up) Choose the best forum tool for the job, even if it is not the core

Re: Forums are in Decay
I don't mind taking this up: The new forums are a serious impediment, both to those seeking help and those who want to give their time and knowledge to assist. My own effectiveness as both a helper and a helpee has fallen drastically since they went live. Gloves off: I've bemoaned the lack of communications expertise in the core team since the day I started using DNN, and those forums really drive the point home. They so completely miss any logical communications goal that I'd long since made notes

Re: How to replicate a module?
I've now done a repeat test with the Links module and also the Announcements module, but in each case the Import, Export and Syndicate menu items fail to appear. Is anyone actually making duplicate modules like this and has it working properly? Any assistance appreciated, Rob

Re: How to replicate a module?
Hi Mike, Yep I did copy that as well. I copied everything across from the core Links module apart from the Module name, folder name, friendly name and description. You are certainly correct as far as I can tell, in that it is the Controller Class that determines what appears on the popup menus. The Controller Class for the Links module: DotNetNuke.Modules.Links.LinkController, DotNetNuke.Modules.Links I also thought I should check the files on the server and found that the .dnn file contains: <businesscontrollerclass>

Re: How to replicate a module?
Thanks for the reply netguy. Well, not knowing how to do it I just went ahead and had a go at it. Made a second copy of the Links module called Links2. Then I went ahead and Adde new module definition, copied everything straight from the first links module except changed the folder, name and friendly name. The I went and did the same for all the controls. That all lopoks and works fine. Except for one thing; The new module doesnt have the Import/Export and Syndicate menu items like the standard Links

How to replicate a module?
(This is about replicate copies of installed modules, not duplicate copies of displayed modules) I want to know if it is possible to make an additional copy of an installed module. I want to do this because I often make drastic changes to the ASCX and CSS and language files to suit a particular site/skin. Now that I am beginning to work with multiple portals on a single DNN instance, I will need to be able to do this. For example... I have the core Links module sitting in /DesktopModules/Links Can
