  • Re: Form Creator 1.5 & Advance Email Manager Conflict?

From memory the validation is fired by the other form and it stops working. Just found this thread. Required validators and DNN at times are a bit of black magic, voodoo and at times, just plain simple luck. Take a step back for a second and when you think that validators are really firing for the page, and not the invididual

  • Re: Advanced Email and News Manager 2.5 now available

if your optin authentication method is user must confirm optin registration, then the second part of that page (optin email) must be completed, otherwise you cannot proceed. However, I'm not sure if you are running our latest versions (microsoft tab controls had a hissy fit with friendly url). Also go to dnn-modules.com - that's our primary website for support, assistance and downloads.

  • Re: Creating a "proof of concept" for a new DAL

Geesh, I was getting my hopes up for Bubba's database. Had it loaded here, rubbing my palms with glee over the thoughts of it! I think what David was getting at was the point of diminishing returns on development investment - if man years of labour are required to make sure that even Bubba's database engine written using Borland Turbo C would work. Is it really necessary given the limited market penetration of Bubba's database on the overall server market. Let's face it for the 90%tile of DNN installations

  • Re: Shopping Cart

I can understand your requirements, and yes, of course if the clients are willing to pay up the money there are other solutions. But at times a full fledged store front, whether it be catalook, portal store, or khedz is simply overkill - from either the server perspective, db overhead and even just simply client maintenance - so I can appreciate your interest in something a little less tangible than the above mentioned products. (note I didn't plug mine when you mentioned your requirements - I was

Not really - I don't know if any datasource that you can't do a join on, and synthesise those instructions in such a way to provide the instructions to the DAL. Too low of a layer approach. Confusing the WHERE-HOW-WHAT. (man, do I ever use techie terms at 3AM). Drilling any deeper into that and denormalization it out further really does create more effort than what it's entailed to do. It would add more complexity into your app layer than the gains you would get from management. See applications

  • Re: Creating a "proof of concept" for a new DAL

We've moved one very large application over to MySQL, let's see about 50 tables and around 250 sprocs - and then the client didn't want it (always the case isn't it?) - that's actually when we first started to wrap our heads around the DAL layer at the time. So many moons ago - heck less than 2 years, but feels like 10 We've done other providers, but we haven't (nor plan to) support our applications under them - simply put even with a low or high level DAL - you're still maintaining the instructions

That's exactly it. and when you think about it - that's really what a provider is supposed to be. It's supposed to be the lowest common demarcation point in which you wish to abstract - anywhere else it's simply at the wong level and causes pain and anguish. I never had to use the DNN DAL until I took over snow's software - I'm looking forward to changing it all over - it's simply so much easier to maintain. I lost the email I wrote up way back to Shaun that went into detail, but the gist of it as

I'd give my recommendation to Nina, but also to Tyler Fawcett ( http://tf.johndcooper.com/ ) as well - we have used his skins and found him to be professional, ethical, and have an extremely quick turnaround. --Richard

  • Re: Shopping Cart

For a quick and dirty approach - did you look at santry's IPN solution using PayPal? it would fit in with your minimal sets of requirements. As far as the other comments, please everyone bear in mind that rolling over modules up to DNN 3 was not the most easy thing in the world to do. All of us are really ssuffering a bit from lack of sleep over the last 4 months

  • Re: any free shopping cart module for DNN3.0.12+?

Well, it is ecomonics of the situation. If the DNN market was large enough, then selling our modules for less money would still work. When you think about the size of the DNN shopping carts out there, just as far as the amount of time it took developers to write and create, there's got to be some tangible amount of return on the investment of time and effort. Let's assume the average development metric of around 200 lines / code per day (develop, test, release) - most stores would be over 1 to 2 person
