  Abstract is just a keyword to specify that the class wasn't intended to be instantiated. The user control itself inherits from this abstract class, which in turn inherits from System.Web.UI.UserControl

  VimpyBoy was close. It's also not nessecary to include any solution (.sln), project (.csproj or .vbproj), or solution user options (.suo) files as well. Also, suppose that you download and install the CSVS version for example, there's no need to include the Setup folder, the Components folder, the docs folder, or the SourceViewer folder. I'm not cracking on VimpyBoy, but you asked for the minimum. Oh, and unless I'm mistaken, you can leave out the licenses.licx file as well.

  Did you ever get a resolution to this? I'm just getting started on this and that's exactly what I'm facing. Can't reinstall b/c I can't lose all the data. But I don't know what to put in the PortalAlias table, if anything. Any help would be appreciated.

  not to get into some flaming discussion, but perhaps we should be fully aware of what we talk about. ASP was a scripting language, and ASP.NET is not. and as far as platform independence, nextstep, you may want to look at http://www.go-mono.com. That way you can run ASP.NET on the same free UNIX box that your php runs from (assuming you're using a UNIX box, based on the platform independent comment). I like PHP, don't get me wrong, but the uninformed have the potential to be just as dangerous as
