  • Re: First impressions of DNN

Did anyone else notice the irony of Joe's example site? A site dedicated to Java development is running on DotNetNuke? That kinda tickled me. :P -Luke

  • DNN MCMS Integration?

I've recently been giving some thought to how DotNetNuke and Microsoft Content Management Server could be made to work together and I'm wondering if anyone else has thought about or maybe even taken steps towards it? What I'm thinking is that while DNN provides a robust framework for presentation and site administration, it lacks actual content management and workflow capabilities. Conversely, MCMS doesn't provide much at all in the way of a presentation layer, but does a good job with the content

  • Re: 3.0.11 coming soon?

Thanks for the response Jeremy. Looking forward to "kicking the tires"! :D The only downside to the wait for the 3.x release is that many module developers are holding off on their own releases. Not complaining, just commenting. ;) Otherwise, I for one really appreciate the frequent beta releases and I agree with Erik that it's been a positive experience. I think the whole community will benefit from having been exposed to the testing process like we have. Thanks again! -Luke

  • 3.0.11 coming soon?

I just noticed that the road map at DotNetNuke Support has been updated for 3.0.12 and that 3.0.11 has been flagged as released. Does this mean we'll be seeing a new release very soon, or is 3.0.11 and internal maintenance release? Also, since it's still just called a "Maintenance Release" does that mean it's still not up to "RC" par? Sorry, I just couldn't keep from asking. ;) -Luke

  • Re: Community Server 1.0 Final Released

The guys from Telligent have said that there will be PAs to install CS in DNN. They will share the same DB and both products use the ASP.NET 2.0 membership provider so they will have "real" user integration. It's a very exciting thing! Unfortunately, Rob Howard mentioned the other day that development of the DNN CS module has been temporarily halted until the official release of DNN 3.x. -Luke

  • Re: DNN gedcom interest?

This is something I am VERY interested! I have been working with many of the popular PHP solutions for a couple years now but I've never been satisfied with any of them. I'm currently using PHPGedView, but I've worked with TNG and Retrospect GDS in the past. Even overlooking the the fact that they're PHP (*cry*), I still don't think any of them have gotten it right. I had finally resolved myself to just rolling up my sleeves and starting from scratch when I came accross this thread. If there's any

  • Re: DNN3 data layer performance degrades badly with rapid, consecutive uses?

As a follow-up to MobileNow's response about DE, this article on the MSDE workload governor might be insightful. Understanding MSDE 2000's Limitations in Web Applications Hope that's helpful. If not, this could be a problem for a lot of us. :( -Luke

  • Re: IIS Log Reports for Dynamic Sites

I use Smarter Stats ( www.smartertools.com ) for my personal sites. It's comparable to AWStats, but built with .NET so I don't have to install ActivePearl. It's VERY low maintenance and very reliable so I'd recommend it just on those points alone. The interface is also pretty good and it's well suited for multiple sites or even multiple servers. -Luke

  • Dotnetnuke.com upgraded?

Is it just me, or has anybody else noticed that dotnetnuke.com appears to be running 3.0.x now? That is new, right? If that's so, can anyone comment on how the upgrade went and how the site is behaving - considering the volume of traffic? Am I the only one sitting at home thinking about DNN and not out celebrating the new year? Anyway, Happy New Year everyone! -Luke

  • Re: Bandwidth restrictions per portal (on a dedicated server) ?

How you configure your logging is going to depend a lot on the architecture of your environment. However, in my experience logging to the default logfiles and then parsing them on a regular interval (like every couple hours) is usually the best blend of performance, reliability and managability. If you're on a dedicated server then Task Scheduler might be the way to go, but if portability is key then you're probably right about using the DNN scheduler. If you have a lot of activity and you're only
