Re: Using web service through HTML page and Javascript...
Thanks again - I really appreciate the help here. What I'm trying to do here is create a web service on an MS based host with all the bells and whistles. (which is expensive). It's already created in ASP.NET 3.5. Then I want to create web pages that are just purely 100% HTML with javascript only (on a Linux server). This page will call the webservice, and retrieve a true/false value from the method. If I can't find a slick answer, I'm going to have to do something pretty silly. I'll

Re: Using web service through HTML page and Javascript...
Thanks guys. I'm a bit confused - as I pretty much have been LOL. Danny117 - in the link you provided, I saw asp tags in every example. Doesn't this mean the scripts need to be in an *.asp page? Which the host I'm going to use doesn't support it. Same with your sample code. I saw ajax in there. I'm not too familiar with ajax, but doesn't that have to be supported by the host as well? Martin - thanks for your answer too. But I don't know anything about proxies. Can you

Using web service through HTML page and Javascript...
Hi all, This is a question I see all over the place - but no one answer. I just need a simple way of sending 2 string parameters to a web service, that returns a boolean value. I found this: http://www.w3schools.com/webservices/ws_use.asp which is the closest I found. But unfortunately, it requires a form post. Let's say the service is located at www.someserver.com/aservice.asmx; and within that is SomeMethod which takes two string parameters called string1 and string2. Now, I have a simple HTML

Re: Can't grasp the path concept using "~/"...
That did it! Wow, you're better support than they are LOL. The main folder, and a sub folder were both set as apps. So the lower level apps thought of themselves as roots, and went nowhere. Awesome - thanks.

Re: Can't grasp the path concept using "~/"...
Thanks Adam. That helped a little. I used the Server.MapPath("~") to find the differences between what I'm getting at home, and when I publish to my hosting company. Using the previous example, I put a file called test.aspx in mywebsite\MemberArea Here's what I found: Locally, referring to ~ actually returns my project's Main Root Folder (which is what I thought ~ was supposed to do): c:\MyProjects\MyWebsite But on my hosts website, the same exact page returns: c:\hosting\hostingCompany\ member\mywebsite

Can't grasp the path concept using "~/"...
Hi All, I'm having such weird problems with my navigations, and I'm sure it's because I can't wrap my head around the whole "~/" thing. The Scenario: Let's say my 1st Default.aspx page is in this physical path on the hosting server: c:\hosting\hostingCompany\ member\mywebsite\Default.aspx and my login page AND Master page are in the following physical path on the hosting server (MemberArea being a directory I created): c:\hosting\hostingCompany\ member\mywebsite\Default.aspx\MemberArea\login.aspx

OK, missing something. Can't get selected value from list control...
I can't get the selected value at all from the list control. I know that the list box is filled, and the value is valid because lst.Items(0).Value returns a value. But if I use lst.Items(0).Selected, lst.SelectedItem.Value, and lst.SelectedValue all return nothing. Here's my code in the Page_Load event: With lst .DataSource = dt .DataTextField = "Source" .DataValueField = "SourceId" .DataBind() End With Works fine. All values and text fill list box. And after hitting a regular button, it's event
