Re: Sending application email through IIS SMTP Vs Exchange server
Jeff, I think the SMTP server that comes with IIS has more capabilities than the SMTP server that is part of Exchange ? I remember reading this somehwhere, but cannot remember the exact reason for this.

Sending application email through IIS SMTP Vs Exchange server
For a ASP.Net application, can someone tell me the pros and cons of using IIS SMTP server for sending emails as opposed to using Exchange Server to send emails? Thanks

Re: Sending application email through IIS SMTP Vs Exchange server
Why do you say 'SMTP has limited throughput'? So many ISPs have their SMTP being used by many customers. Or I am missing something here? Also, using SMTP, means your ASP.NET is more synchronized in terms of availability with SMTP. With Exchange, this may not be the case, since when IIS is working, exchange may be down. With SMTP, whenver your application is up and running, so is the SMTP. Using SMTP instead of Exchange will help in load sharing, since Exchange is not going to be burdened

Re: Filtering a Pivot Query
I think if a pivot query is filtered on a column ( i.e filter clause appears after pivot query), and this column is indexed in a table that is used in base query, then SQL Server 2005 will automatically use the index for this column while building the result set? But I am not sure about this feature. Hope some EXPERT can confirm this. If yes, then this is a great feature in SQL Server 2005.

A user control public event does show up in intellisense in a Page
I have a user control, whose sample code is as below. I would think that the event 'ProductCategorySelected' should be exposed by this user control when it's hosted in a page. But in the page code-behind, the event never shows up in intellisense dropdown for the hosted user control. Am I making some mistake in exposing a event or is there something at play here? public partial class ProductCategoryTree : System.Web.UI.UserControl { public event EventHandler ProductCategorySelected; protected

Re: How to make sure no data in a table is changed while a stored procedure is executing?
But I was wanting to lock the rows for the entire transaction, and not just when I am updating it.

How to make sure no data in a table is changed while a stored procedure is executing?
I have a table called Items and a table called Orders. I want to make sure that while my stored procedure is running and updating data in Items and Orders tables, no other process should modify data in these 2 tables. But reads from these 2 tables should be allowed so that 'SELECT' is not blocked on these 2 tables while the stored procedure is going on. How can I implement my above requirement in SQL Server 2005? Thanks
