  I just wrestled with this for the last two days and I need to make sure that nobody suffers with this again :). I have quite a few UpdatePanels on my page and I didn't set the UpdateMode property (which defaults to Auto). What this means is that an event in one UpdatePanel will cause an update all the other UpdatePanels set to Auto. UpdateMode=Conditional makes it so that a given UpdatePanel is only updated when its Update() method is called or when the event originates inside itself. Now the problem

• ViewState disappears when using an iframe on the page

  So here's a really strange problem: I have a list of textboxes on a page. I also have an iframe on the page. I have 'onfocus' javascript code on each textbox which changes the iframe's page to show the details about the textboxes data. Now if I only click on one or two of the boxes to change their values and I click a button to submit the form everything is fine and my values are posted fine and my viewstate works as expected.   Thank you. I got this to work by invoking "SetPersonalizationDirty" with reflection so I wouldn't have to create my own subclass in order to have access to it.
