  • Re: Publishing web site on VS 2005

I actually figured this out an hour after i posted. It turns out that the 'publich website' under build does not process the web deployment settings. That's why i kept seeing the app_code assembly names. Instead, with the web deployment item selected in the solution explorer i clicked to build and that created a debug and release folder with the correct assembly names.

I had the same questions earlier today about the assembly naming. My google searching eventually took me to the blog post mentioned above. After installing the ‘web deployment’ tool I found that it doest work with frontpage extensions or FTP sites. What a let down that is. Regardless, I went home for the day and installed the same tool on my home PC which has file share access to my development server. It seemed to work ok this time and was able to publish and get a /bin folder like I wanted. However

It's real easy guys... all you need to do is re-build your application in its new location. This only applies to apps using codebehind. If you use inline code within script blocks the problem will not happen. you can convert codebehind pages by copying the .cs or .vb code into the main aspx page within a script block. Anyway, what you do is copy your files from their local spot to the new server, then in VS click file, open from web, and open your project. Most likely you'll need to conect via FrontPage

TimH: Is there any way i can look at the code you used to parse the xml data? I can get everything to work if i knew XSL better. If you didnt use and XSL document to parse the data then could you share what you did. thanks Aaron

I have tried several times to reach him with no luck. I agree with you, either he is dead or he really never had a clue about what he was doing. It doesnt matter anyway because i figured out how to post to the XML api and recieve the data. Now all i have to do is write an XSL file or some other routine to parse the XML. So far i have had only a small amount of luck parsing the data, mostly because i dont know to much about Xpath and XSL. Aaron

I'm with you on that! There are no practical code examples in the entire thing. Even with years of experience with ASP, VBScript and SQL i cant seem to get it to work. I have implemented several XML, XSL, ASP based web projects and still could not grasp their documentation. It's obvouis that you must have a very high level of programming knowledge with XML, XSL and other scripting laguanges to get this to work.

cr4ft3r: I would be interested in looking at your modules, you can email me at aaron@link2000.net.dontspam (without the dontspam, that was a good idea by the person who did it the previous posts) thanks
