We have 90 individual sites plus 1 dedicated server on CrystalTech. Most of the individual sites are cold fusion with about 33% .net and 15% plain HTML.

They always take care of any problems quickly.

Edit - I've got 2 DNN sites there and another guy at work just set one up. They have an auto setup feature in the control center that takes about 3 minutes to get a DNN 3.x site running.

Same here, Brad, I'm considering a DNN "host" account. BAsically you get DNN 3.1.1 installed, get host access, and manage all your portals yourself. You can setup hosting plans for portal admins and charge for that yourself, you then provide the support and administration on the portal for them. Being based in Australia this kind of plan would be aimed at Australian based customers... Price can be under $50 per month with all setup done for you at no cost, and maybe only a small fee for extra domains. I feel with the monthly fees the big catch is in support costs. How do you justify charging a client $20 or so a month and then spend two or three hours every month "helping them out" at no extra cost...? In many cases this is just caused by simple issues such as "oops, I forgot this or that, can you please fix it" and while little things only take few minutes it adds up to a lot over the month. So with the "host account" mentioned here you would be the one to administer all aspects of the DNN host - including uploading of modules, skins, etc. with support given just for issues such as db backup server access/permissions, as usual for any hosting plan.
For someone with multiple portals hanging off the same DNN install this could be quite profitable, and being Aus based also offer you the right locale, time zone, etc coupled with reliability and local access.

I currently only provide hosting to my clients (who are not developers). However, I was considering offering a low cost dedicated server hosting that would basically give you unrestricted RDP access to a Win2003 server. Would anybody be interested in this service for around $100\month? Let me know.

I've been also speaking to a local hosting provider with nice setup and might be bnegotiating a customised DNN 3.1 plan. This would suit those who are anxious to have a server based in Australia - please feel free to contact me if you'd like to know more in a few weeks time - definitely I'd like to make this work in time to move some DNN sites before end of 2005...

Hi,

We have decided to go with discountasp.com. I will let you know how it goes. I forgot to mention that godaddy was WICKED slow with dnn on shared server (deluxe hosting they call it) . It took as much as 50 seconds to load the dnn page. I will say that they were great and helpful with domains, transfers, etc., just lousy for hosting a dnn site.

By the way, dotnetpark.com web hosting control panel also allows to install DotNetNuke, Community Server, Starter Kits etc. in 2-3 clicks.

Hi,

I have been researching this issue after having a very disappointing experience trying to get dnn going at godaddy. Permissions, installation, etc. have been a nightmare. I have not been able to upload modules and have been trying for 2 weeks to get it figured out. Look at this quote from a support email:

Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for contacting customer support. Unfortunately, we are unable to troubleshoot coding, scripting, or database issues.

I am bailing on Godaddy and still not quite sure who I will go with. I did want to share with you my summary of this post. I did not include everyone's post unless their preference was clear. This is in no way 'science' but merely a summary of people's thoughts in this thread. It seems like a poll of the wider dnn community would be valuable.

I don't know about hosting for GoDaddy, but I use them for all my domain names. The only time you shouldn't use them is if you are using your own server in house. I'm not sure what, why or how, but a customer of mine bought their name through Godaddy and couldn't get it working right when they moved it in house. Otherwise, I haven't had one issue with them with over 30 names to manage over 3 years. They even have free domain redirecting which saves a small bit of change for me.

I want to try something a little different. I am a hosting provider, and I personally like the DNN environment concept. Now I want to present you all with a question.

What do you as hosting clients want?
Be reasonable, keep in mind I have to absorb or pass on the costs of your desires.

Here's your chance, at least I'm asking and listening. Post about security, modules, templates, provisioning and be so bold as to say what you believe is a reasonable price for us to charge for these miracles you wish fufilled. I'll make all reasonable requests a reality. (Probably all of the other providers who are following this thread from the shadows will as well.) As for the unreasonable requests, I'm open for discussion as to why it's unreasonable and see if there is a way to make it reasonable.
This is a wish list for how a Host can support you and still stay in business. One of the networks I support or own should be able to fill any desired niche.
Then we can talk about who is the best host for DNN.
