need help with DNN custom module development

hello friends,
please bear with me - as they (DNN Forums) are taking days just to moderate a post!
Thats why i am here..

I am working on creating DNN custom module..

Scenario is:
There will be 3 listing page which will opened by 3 different menu options (view page)
There will be 3 add/edit page which will be opened from these listing pages as well as 3 other menu options.

How should I go with Creating module definition?

As, If i create only one module definition than there can be only one user control with "blank" key which will be loaded first at the time of loading the module...
but, i have 3 listing pages that should be loaded on click of 3 menu options.
as well as 3 add/edit pages that should be loaded on click of 3 menu options.

anybody have any idea?
should i create different module definition for each control?

SQL Query in DNN

Hi,

I need help in writing an SQL query that finds the PortalAlias of the DNN portal from where the query is executed.

The reason for this is that I am using a third party form module that uses it's own tokens (no DNN token support). I can convert a field in the form to third party token. If I query the PortalAlias then I can use it's value for hyperlinks within that form and on it's respective portal. The point is to copy the form and use it across all of my portals but have the PortalAlias query unique to each portal.

Facing Strange problem in dotnetnuke 4.8.2

Hi Friends,

Till now I was working smoothly with dotnetnuke version 4.5 and the starter kit for the same.

But after i installed dotnetnuke version 4.8.2 and starter kit for the same ,i am facing a strange problem while developing a custom module.

And the problem is "All my links ,buttons doen not work in view mode ,they only work in edit mode."

could any one help me out ,how to sort this out?Do i need to uninstall previous version of starter kit?

any kind of help will be highly precious,

Help with DNN Paging Control

datagrid. datasource = obj.getEmployees()
Then I bind it.

How do I use the DNN paging control from here.

I am able to display the control but it fetches all the info irrespective of whichever page is clicked.

Dotnetnuke module creation

I'm trying to create a new module in DNN , but after I perform the add item \ DNN module all the module files are created in the desktopmoduls except the modulename.SQLdataprovidor so I can't create the module in runtime.

Please help me try to find out why the modulename.SQLdataprovidor isn't created.

Enterprise Search Engine module for DNN3.1.1

Hello,

we just developed a search engine module for DNN 3.1.1.

The module uses DotLucene as the indexing engine, and it includes a spider that the administrator can configure to crawl any site, be it a DNN site or not. The modules on the site do not need to be ISearcheable compliant in order to be indexed.

Open-SearchEngine works just like Google would. A site is crawled according to the links it contains, and the content is indexed and stored in the file system. Upon searchng, the indexed content is queried, and the results displayed in the familiar google format, according to relevance.

Weather Module (Oliver Hine)

I'm running Oliver Hine's weather module v1.3.1.3 on two sites. One is my personal site rybak.tv and the other is an intranet site for the company I work for. The problem I'm having is that the module running on the intranet is not updating. I've checked all my firewalls, added weather.com to the exceptions list and nothing seems to work. If I change the location of the weather station it will pull the current data but again will not update. My personal site which is running the same version updates automatically.

Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appriciated. Thank you.

When creating a new module no sqldataprovider created

I did the following:
website --> add new item -->dotnetnuke module
renamed .modulename to ... someModule, for example.
Clicked add.

Most of the "stuff" that I will need (according to the book I have) is then added, and I rename the module to someModule in AppCode and DeskTopModules, as per the instructions on the help page that pops up.

However, in the DeskTopModules inside the new someModule directory, there is no someModule.sqldataprovider.

What have I missed in creating this new module, that this required item is not being created?

Navigation based on user region

I'd like to present a link on certain pages that will let the users navigate to another page based on the region they have entered in their registration.

I lost debugging status when i imported my custom module to a web site. i am downloaded entire web site source code to my local machine . and i attached my custom module sourse code to that project .after attaching i am build the project and run it. that time i inserted brack points to my custom module and debugger is not working.

Pick'Em Module v2.0 for DNN 2.x

Description

PickEm is a sports pool module for DotNetNuke that allows admins to run their own weekly
pool based on the popular Pick 'Em format. Each week, users log in to the pool and choose
the teams that they think will win their games during the upcoming week. As each game
is finished, the admin can log into the pool to update the scores. At the end of the week,
users can compare the performance using the built-in reporting.

- old FootballPool module from DNN 1.x has been completely rewritten for DNN 2.x and rebranded as PickEm

In a week or so, I should have another module coming out that will support Reality TV show pools. I'm a big fan of Amazing Race, so I'm trying to get the module ready for that show's start date on July 6th. It's almost finished and will look similar to Pick'Em. I wanted to have a cooler name for this new module, so it will be called Xtreme Reality Challenge, or XRC for short. After all, it's always cooler if you have an X in your title, isn't it?

Hi,

I am new to DNN4 and are learning how to create custom module. I have previous experience programming in ASPNET 1.0 and VB.NET.

I am having a problem with the css class url definition.

The background image does not display at run time eventhough the file exists on disk in that location. The same definition works fine in an ASPNET application but not in DNN module. The image failed to display.

My question are:

With ASPNET2.0, files are organised into reserved directories App_Code, App_Data, App_Theme etc...

1. Where should all the CSS files and images files be in the DNN web site project?

2. With the above definition, how should I declare the url reference??

3. Can you also direct me to some documentation on where I could read about the DNN4 website directory structure?? eg: I found out that if I declared a public function and put it in the folder DotnetNuke.Library->Components->Shared. Then the function can be accessibled by all modules??

Persisting Data or Viewstate?

Hi All,

I have a simple module displaying some text with a title.

When I go to the edit page of said module, all data is shown, no prob.

When I modify the text in the textbox and the title in its own textbox, the text is updated but the title is not.

I find that by the time the code in my update event fires, the Title that the user has amended is not there but the original Title (before amendments) is.

I've looked at viewstate etc etc and cannot see why some user-changed data is "lost" or not persisted and some is retained/persisted.

Any advice? I'm sure this is something very simple that I'm not doing...

Aggregator (Tabbed Modules) is a flexible module that acts as a tabbed container or localization container for 1 or more modules.

New to version 4.0 (DNN3,DNN4 only):

Multiple modules per tab

Choose the 'Add new tab from module' option to pick a module and have it add the tab and module at the same time
You can insert a break after any module to move it down below the previous module for positioning

Localization

Any tab or module can be defined specific to a locale so it only shows for users in that locale.
All locales (the default) shows always
Fallback locale only shows if it's only module or tab left after deciding on whether to show any specific locales. For instance, you could have an NL-NL tab and a Fallback tab. If you were logged in as NL-NL locale then it would only show the NL-NL tab, the fallback would not be shown. Conversely, if you are logged in as anything other than NL-NL, then it would only show the fallback tab

Prev/Next

If this option is selected, then Prev/Next buttons will be shown. To change the Prev/Next text, edit the App_LocalResources/Aggregator.ascx.resx file (for English) or it's localized alternative for other languages

Hide Single Tabs

If this option is selected and there ever happens to be a single tab (either because only 1 tab is defined or 1 tab is left after the localizations are determined) then the tab will not be shown essentially making it appear as a normal module. This is useful if you wanted to localize a text/html module for 5 different locales. You could add a single tab, add 5 text/html modules each for a different locale (actually 4 locales and a fallback) and when it is rendered, you wouldn't see a tab at all just the specific text/html module that applies to the locale of the user

Tab Skin

Skinning has been simplified with the use of a skins directory beneath the DestopModules/DNNStuff - Aggregator folder. Each folder below that is a skin, and includes subfolders for Top,Bottom,Left,Right and Inline. The skin has to have a styles.css file and any images it needs in these folders. The most complex example of this would be the BlueSteel skin. This will make it much easier to bundle skins together and deploy them without having to edit a module.css file etc.
The old 'theme' skinning syntax still works and if you upgrade from an older version it will maintain this setting although you have the option to override to the new skinning ability

Active Hover

If this option is selected, the tabs will be automatically selected whenever the user hovers over them. Your users will absolutely love this feature!!!

New Features include:

Nested tabs - Aggregator modules may be nested within each other for a multi-level drill down effect (See sample here)
Customized captions - Tab captions can be individually customized with images, text or replacement text using predefined tokens

Features include:

Saves valuable screen real estate by wrapping any number of DotNetNuke modules within a tabbed interface
Each tab takes on the name of the module that it wraps
Since module titles are not necessary when shown in tabs, you can automatically hide all your module titles with a single setting
All tab changes are client-side so there is no postback to slow your users down or tie up your server
Selected tabs stay selected even if you move back and forth through the site

Flexibility:

Includes 5 different tab positions:
- Top, Bottom, Right, Left and Inline
Infinitely customizable using CSS styles so you can match your site look and feel
You can provide styles for the following:
- TabStrip - style applied to the container that the tabs are shown in
- TabUnselected - style applied to the unselected tabs
- TabSelected - style applied to the selected tab
- TabMouseOver - style applied when mousing over any unselected tabs
- TabPage - style applied to the pages containing your modules
Styles are grouped into themes, so all you have to do is specify a single theme name to switch all 5 styles at once

Tab rights mimic the modules they contain and will only show if the user has the proper privileges

New Custom Forms Module - In Design...add your input

Many of you have asked for this so I'm finally taking it on. I'm building a new module to handle custom forms. The base is coming from the Custom Forms in SigmaPro. The data is stored in tables. Not XML. It's also serializable so that you can download the form and upload to any portal also using the same module.

Anyone have any requests for features or needs for API support for your own modules?

I was also thinking about integrating this directly into the OnyakTech Reports module so that a PDF can be instantly generated based on the input of the custom form. Anyone have a use for this functionality?

Configuration Error after Rebuild of Custom Module

I am getting the following error after each rebuild of my custom module. Can anyone help me figure out a cause for this error???? I am usually stuck with this screen for about 5min or so before a refresh does the trick. I have tried restarting IIS, which doesnt always work and I have also tried to kill the aspnet_wp.exe. I recently had to rename some of my Assemblies and I dont know if that causes this or what? Let me know if you need more info.
