Seems there is a lot of discussion regarding the GoDaddy install. From all the activity on the dotnetnuke.com forums, I was able to document how to install DNN on the root of the GoDaddy account. The walkthrough covers 4.x but perhaps there is some useful information that can be applied to older versions. Anyhow, you can find the article at www.virtual-essentials.com >> DotNetNuke >> GoDaddy

I have tried all I can find in this thread but I cannot get a manual install of 3.2.2 to work. It says everything installs and I get a link at the end of the install to go to my portal but when I click on it I get a url in the browser that says "Default.aspx?tabid=36&error=Object+reference+not+set+to+an+instance+of+an+object.&content=0"

The screen just has a red exclamation point and says "An error has occurred." repeated twice.

All the stored procedures were created and the portals directory has one called 0 in it.

Any suggestions?

I just wanted to thank everyone. Yesterday I got 4.0.3 up and running on GoDaddy and I definitely couldn't have done it without you. Thanks!!

hi manny,

can you please confirm that godaddy doesn't allow uploading for an existing sql database. i have been checking out several of the godaddy hosted sites and found that they perform very well. i won't getting the extra 99gbs either. :) i want to start a photo sharing website soon.

anyhow, i am considering transfering an existing dnn installation and database from my current hoster to dnn. is there any chance that this will be allowed anytime soon? i really don't mind not having my dnn installation at the root domain level ie. http://www.mydomain.com , it can be http://www.mydomain.com/dnn ., just as long as i can transfer my current setup.

If you are looking for something that can easily redirect to the subdirectory, use dotdesk's simple asp redirect. Here is how I did it:

I already have DNN installed on Godaddy but I want to put it in the root dir.

I am having problems with forwarding from my index.html it is too slow and sometimes doesnt work right.
It would be great if I can run DNN from the root directory.

I have recently setup a DotNetNuke site on Godaddy manually with www.NorthernStarSolutions.com.

The instructions at the start of this topic are great. However there is a blaring security error. DO NOT check each permission box when creating the folder(s). This is incredibly dangerous and bad advice.

Northenstars did it but I went to the website .. tried to find the information and even registered but I have not heard anything back.

Run DNN in root directory... LOL

You will have to take that up with GoDaddy... They do not allow it... Good luck.

I finally did it. I got DNN 3.2.2 manually installed and running on GoDaddy.

A few corrections to your directions...

In step 1, you wan all permissions excluding BROWSE.

After uploading your DNN site and prior to installing it (first hit to the site), go back to GoDaddy, on the directory permissions page, remove all permissions you assigned in step 1. When the pending operation is complete, then re-apply those permissions, except BROWSE.

Now use your browser to navigate to your site to install DNN.

I have .NET 2.0 installed with a manual install of DNN 3.2.2 and a pre install of DNN 4.0.2. All in sub directories, not in the root :(

If you go the PreInstall method, I have found two great tools that will allow you to access your DNN files.

http://www.iisworks.com/fileman/ Free can not navigate to the virtual directory wiht out knowing its physical path from Drive:\...

http://www.gleamtech.com/products/wexlite.asp Free, edit config.asp to set the password and set the root to the virtual folder for your DNN (pre-installed) "/dnn". Once this is working, you will learn the full physical path and then use FileMan if you prefer it. If GoDaddy would allow us to register dll.... then FileMan can also zip/unzip files on the server.

I finally had to get manuall install working because I see no way of upgrading the DNN preinstall version and GoDaddy does not seem to be concerned... I have contacted them several tims, even about FileMan and getting the zip dll registered, but have not heard back yet.

I made sure the web.config file is in the root folder "/username/" and that customErrors mode="Off" and I still get the error.

Do I need something else besides whsql-v08 for the DB server?

it sounds like you have that subdirectory browse permissions, and did not unzip and ftp upload files to the server

I have followed the installation instructions, thanks thekubrix. I have run into a problem though, maybe someone could help. When I browse out to my recently created directory, it lists my zip file in a file manager format instead of executing the zip. Anyone have any ideas? Did I miss a step or setting?
