I had this same problem and deleting one image module I had on the site eliminated the error from the log. Nice!

hmm, i'm not sure if that is the cause of your problems, but you can try.

be sure to check the value in the file /install/dnn.config

you can trigger installation manually by navigating to /Install/Install.aspx?mode=Install

I may have found the problem. My assembly version is 3.0.13 but the versions table in my db is only 3.0.12.

Is it just a matter of running the script 03.00.13.SqlDataProvider to update the db?

Can I force DNN to upgrade the db itself?

The only non Core modules on this install are ActiveForums and its associated TopPosts.

well, the only way i can think of to find out what module is causing your problems, is to start a completely new (test) portal, with fresh db, and start to add content, and reindex after every module you add.

BTW, What modules are you using anyway?

My SearchItem table has over 80 rows where the SearchKey is empty.

I have also tried deleting the content of :

SearchItem
SearchItemWord
SearchItemWordPosition
SearchWord

and then re-indexing without any success.

The table searchwords does not have a unique index on the searchwords column, so that will never generate an error. The problem relates to table SearchItem, which has a unique index on the columns moduleID and SearchKey, which means that there is only one searchkey allowed per module. Due to the constraint, you will never find duplicate values in this table, as adding duplicate values will result in an error.

you should probably look in table SearchItem for empty values in column SearchKey. And i would be extremely surprised if any of the core modules are causing this error ....

I have run a query to show me any duplicates on the table SearchWords. I included joins to get the ModuleID, Module Title and friendly name.

The modules where duplicates are found are:

Text/HTML
FAQ
Announcements
Links
Documents

all core modules!

i think there was in issue in one of the later beta versions that caused errors in the search indexer after you deleted modules. However, an upgrade to 3.0.12 should have fixed that ...

The other reason for errors during search indexing is an obvious, but i think often overlooked, one. Chances are you are using a module with a poorly implemented GetSearchItems method ... It can be a tedious job to track down the module in question though. A hint would be looking at the exact error that you get (either duplicate values, or null values). If the error is a duplicate value, try to find the value in the searchitems table, check the moduleid for that record, and find out what module it is ... Null values are a bit harder to do. One way is to create a new portal on a new instance of dnn, and start adding your modules, reindex the search parameters after every addition ... this way you will find the module that is causing the error ...

it would help a lot if the exception would mention at least the moduleid that is causing the error ....

I to have been having strange problems related to the Search Indexing. I posted http://forums.asp.net/884002/ShowPost.aspx but no luck. I have now removed the SearchEngineScheduler task and it still runs!!!

I initially thought the problem may have been caused by an upgrade but I am now having the same problems on a clean 3.0.13 installation.

On the thread above I show where the error is thrown. Why there are duplicates in the table in the first place escapes me.
