Apparently, one of the courses you have yet to complete is Remedial English Language Comprehension For Beginners (Introductory Level). From my previous post:

Read it slowly, Professor. Sound it out if you must.

In one instance, a border concept is being taken from a site to create a completely different design (despite your keen observation that both sites used... *drumroll*... white backgrounds!). In the other, people are downloading the entire source code, modifying a single element and publishing it without giving credit to the original author.

I'm not sure how much simpler I can put this for you. I guess if you haven't been able to distinguish between these two concepts up to this point, you'll probably continue to struggle with the idea. So I won't make your head spin even faster by elaborating any further on the subject.

FYI: My "degrading and childish" comments are not directed towards the entire DNN community, just those who voluntarily choose to ignore copyright restrictions, and those who like to argue with their heads clean up their a$$es.

Look at it this way: If you should ever produce something worth copying, and someone steals that design, you'll be thankful that there are people like me out there who are willing to stand up and piss off a whole lot of people for the sake of artistic integrity.

Now go hit those books! You'll never become a professor if you don't crack down and study. If you don't cross the finish line, let me know and I'll post my degree on the Internet and you can download it and simply replace my name with yours. I'm sure you'd have no moral objection.

this is my final comment ( and im not a professor yet, have a few certificates I still have to pass )

i was refering to the use of royaltee free ; there should be permission asked to do something with a skin, then was the permission asked to directly reuse images from a site designed by someone else to create a skin for the dnn skinning contest? ( are we measuring with the same standards )

and just constrain yourself to normal comments instead of those childish and degrading comments we have become accustomed to from you over here.

If you wanne be childish so can the professor, sit in the corner and put on your dunce hat.

Yes, Professor Schwing, SkyWorks, Inc.'s site was developed by Eric Jordan and company. You get a cookie. This is a prime example of taking a small element from a well-designed site and expanding on it to create your own design.

Do you see how this is different from taking an entire site design and slapping a new logo on it, or replacing a single image? If not, perhaps your helmet strap is too tight.

I don't want to have to reprint the lyrics, in their entirety, to the Growing Pains theme song in this forum, but if push comes to shove I'm prepared to do so. Take heed.

I dont find it amusing it started that way but it has become annoying, not to mention bad for this community as we have seen from soem of the harsh commetn made and ditto actions.

Its a pretty basic design that can be found all over the place and as for the borders it looked exactly liked the other site ( think that was originally done by 2advanced ), the inlayed borders up to the dots on those bordes, coincedence, imitation, both designers following the same tutorial, it can be anything but i find it amazing that take the white layout from skyworks, add some grey color and it looks exactly like the tranquility up to the dots.

I agree with you, Leif, but I'm still outraged by the promotion of the videos with the Dutch Lesbians! The Scandinavians are far better performers and somebody has to draw Tylers attention to this fact!
On a more relaxed note I tend to agree with most of Tylers points - you can be inspired by the graphical compositions and try to use some of the techniques in your own work (as you could by going to a museum) but you cannot cut a piece out of his work and replace it with your own creation.
That said, I find it almost impossible to believe that any self-respecting webdesigner would take Tylers original work into his portfolio and market it as his own - the hammer would fall pretty hard then and he would loose every credibility among his peers.

Its not good to tell other not to break copyright rules if you dont work after them yourself.

At least you have to tell us thet the poem was written by Alan Thikle,Gloria Loring and Al Burton.

Its a good manner among artists not to take others material and make it your own :)

OK... I've removed all "tranquility" skins from my sites. But I'm really pissed because I spent a lot of time modifying it. It's not because of legality issues that I'm removing it; if you have read this whole post you’ll understand my reasons! I just don’t want to be associated with “tranquility”…
