I found a text to image renderer, but not an html to image....

The container site I'm hoping for a week or so will run itself :) I need to get a few clients work done, and start working on a new application toolkit for under DNN.....and package up the three that have been sitting there waiting PA assembly and documentation so that I could throw them out the door at people...*sigh*

Let me know what you come up with, would make a great edition to the site :)
and pssst...everyone...upload containers or at least visit us!

If i get it working ill let you know then you can have images rendered of the html of the dnn containers for your container site

Re: Container Site

I think for alot of container modifications to core, I'm waiting to see what comes out of 1.1 skinning first. It's my understanding, but I may be off - that the container concept is entirely changing in 1.1.
As far as the download module, yeah, it definately needs some paging happening!

I'll have to see if I have the source to that module.....hmmmm..lol

I'll take a look at that container enhancement, but I'm fairly up to my eyeballs at the moment....sigh...so much fun stuff to do...not enough time!

nice site, but perhaps an ida to change the download module and add some paging to it, that will sure make it more readable.

I am working on some more dnn containers and a gdi + container enhancement wouldnt it be cool to have images instead of textual headers so you cn mek the type of font match the design of the container.

I just need someone with some more dnn experience then me to help me find best way to incorporate this , up for it?

I have a <img src="Schwingcanvas.aspx?text=module&font=gothic&direction=righttoleft>

this could be something we could add to the moduleheader in container enhacement.

Re: Container Site

:) Glad you liked it!
That baby is slow to load that container page though...I think it's downloading 300+ images locally on the first load of the page! Would love to have a HTML -> image renderer to save speed, but that's a future change *smiles*
Adobe creates a 1x1x1 .gif (in other words) transparent gif - color pallete 2 colors.

The color pallet even on an empty/transparent gif does make a difference. Go figure!

good point about the spacer image - i remember what a headache it was figuring out why navigator didn't render cells with backgrounds until there was some content. that was years ago and i don't know if navigator or other browsers still do that, but it is something i'll have to go back and take care of in my containers just in case.

as a total aside, i'd also like to know how that file gets compressed down to 43 bytes - the best i can manage is 85 for a 1 x 1 transparent gif (which is what 1x1.gif in the main dnn images directory is). nonetheless, for those of us who don't/won't have access to adobe products, the alternative is available in the standard dnn images.

A site for people to register there baby upload photos etc etc. In our very unique pixel portal designs I present to you a new design

I know thst it doesnt look like the standard DNN portal but it will work on my new menu enhancement for dnn portals.

I have a topenu that renders a tabstrip of images or text

And then i have a dynamically loaded control that takes all the child items to n level of this hometab and then feed this to the telerik.com radpanelbar.

Its something we have used in our IBS portals before ( were known for our non standard cookie cutter ibs sites, now its time to do the same for dnn :) but give me a week or so and we will have it rewritten for dnn as well.

For the people requesting my free scripts, the site is coming lang the design is almost finished and when the side menu module enhancement is done we will put it live, see the new layout here.

I am also working a link index like fuzzysoftware.com its working in our ibs portal but should be finished for dnn as well around this weekedn. I think i will give it away fro free for people who buy our first dnn modules ( schwingconent 2.0 dnn [ templateable cms system ] ). Its no use selling it seperately because I saw the one from santry and i also saw the new version man I cannot even compete with that in functionality.

And everyone hold your horses I am going to make more container designs ( thanks for all the nice comments and emails ) but have a few ones to finish now that im getting paid to do weee ;)
One should also create a page. Now that I've created it, what the heck do I do with it. I simply forgot that Core doesn't have the container preview enhancement that Steve Fabian did.

Yes, Adobe has the nice benefit of automatically rendering a small spacer.gif file of 43 bytes in size for that purpose of placeholding an empty table cell.

i didn't go through all the material on the page you cited, but the advantage to using that method (as opposed to the one stated above) is that you don't have to repeat containers for each portal (which may be a distinct advantage if you have a lot of portals and plan to use them everywhere). regardless of how the container author set it up, it should just be a matter of modifying the html in the container.txt to point to the right folder depending on which way you decide to go. i would like to make an observation about a particular portion of that method in that then images used between the corners (top, bottom, left and right) only need to be one pixel wide/high (unless you've got a pattern that requires more) since they are used as background images and are automatically repeated to 'fill the bill'. sure they're small files, but every little bit helps (especially on a dial-up).

hope that helps,

The [MODULE] is text that is simply a placeholder for the module. You leave that in there, DNN takes care of that while rendering the page.

For implementing a container in core:
1. Figure out what container you want.
2. Open the container.txt in notepad and select-all and copy.
3. Go into Module Settings for the module in which you want the container to show up.
4. Select "Edit Container", and notice the textarea box then appears. Paste the text into there.
5. Select "Update"
6. You should have your container.
