Hello,

Great info!. Got it right the first time in C:\Inetpub directory. I erased that project and now tried it in different location C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects. The funny thing is that it wouldn't run in my "Projects" directory. I set it up so that it has the same permission as the "Inetpub" directory but no such luck.

The error occurs when I finish the builds and try to go to: http://localhost/dotnetnuke. The error says

Error Installing DotNetNuke Current Assembly Version: 04.00.02

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProviderSystem.Data.SqlClient.SqlException.....................

Have anyone experience this before?

I have having the same problem with the Directory Listing Denied. I have that fixed now but why is it trying to install when I go to my default? It is telling me now that there is nothing to Install. I have already done the install. Help Please.

Wow I thought I've seen every error message. I'm at a loss. How much memory do you have in your computer/ You need at least 512MD of ram. If you do then try setting up DN using the Starter Kit Files and the directions here:

The Starter Kit files are not just for creating modules, but they actually set up a DotNetNuke site from scratch. They are actually easier than using the Source or install versions.

Yes, I am using SQL 2005 Standard Edition and set it to "Mixed authentication mode". My platform is Windows 2003 and VS.net 2005 standard version.

I exactly followed your instruction to make a new installation (DNN 4.02). But I got the error as follows:

DotNetNuke Upgrade Error

The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )

Failed to load Install template.

When I change the loginid to "sa", I will get following error message:

A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.)

Can you help me out?

Please edit your post to remove your password to your SQL server.

Are you useing sql200 or sql2005 (not SQL 2005 express)?

If so is the server set to "Mixed authendication mode"?

Thank you so much for prompt reply! Yes, you are right, after I adding Default.aspx to the Box "Enable Default Document", the error I got before is disappeared!

But, now I got a strange error message as follows:

The stored procedure 'dbo.dnn_GetPortalAliasByPortalID' doesn't exist.

It seems like there is something wrong with the connection to database, but I am sure the connection string is setting correctly. I am using SQL 2005 standard edition and Windows 2003.

I droped database and recreated it again, set up a login and add user to the this database with dbowner permission. But there is no luck, still got this error, I have been searching online for solution for hours, still no luck.

Go into IIS settings
Right-Click on the DotNetNuke web
Go to properties
Click on the Documents Tab
Select the box "Enable Default Document"
Ensure that default.aspx is in the list. if not add it

Thanks for your detailed instruction of installation of DNN 4, I think it is very helpful for many new DNN users.

However, I still encounter a problem when I installed DNN 4.02 (fresh installation on Windows 2003 with SQL2005 and VS.Net 2005 standard version). I followed exactly the instruction you provided here. After creating the database in SQL2005 and modified web.config and Solution file, I successfully built the solution in VS.Net 2005. Then, when I tried to install the DNN site, I got the error message as follows:

"Directory Listing Denied

This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed. "
=========================================

I have granted the full access controls (c:\DotNetNuke4\Website folder) to Network Service account and set ASP.Net version to 2.0 in IIS and made the default page to Default.aspx.

So, why can't I run the installation after I successfully built the solution? I will really appreciate if anyone can help me ?

yeah, just go into enterprise manager and give aspnet rights to that database. If it is a test/dev environment that no one else can get to, I give it system admin privlidges.

Hi,

I followed Shaun's instructions (DNN 4.00.01, VSWD and SQL2005 Express) but get the following:

Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'XPC\ASPNET'

Can anyone explain how to set permissions for ASPNET user. I do still have VS 2003 and SQL 2000 installed on my machine if this may have something to do with it.

OK, i just set up my DNN 4.0.1 development environment, i have all my dev sites running on a seperate win2003 server, so my setup is a bit different.

In VS2003, i used a windows fileshare to access my files on the webserver, so i kept that setup. I had to figure out what worked for me in the SLN file, and finaly this worked:

Project("{E24C65DC-7377-472B-9ABA-BC803B73C61A}") = "I:\...\Website\", "I:\dev\dnn401\Website\", "{79D3BA0F-F76F-4A84-AE7F-C6A01EC247F9}"

I:\ is the mapped drive to my server's inetpub directory, I:\dev\dnn401\ is the directory where all the DNN 4.0.1 files sit, and I:\dev\dnn401\website\ is the dir that contains the website, and is also the dir that is used by IIS to run the website from

With this change in the .sln file, i could open the solution in vs2005, and compile, however i got a few warnings about references to webutility not being found... however, the first build process caused the missing dlls to be created, so a second build went just fine, just 2 warnings:
