I just installed the CSK and chose the option to use Windows authentication. However, now I am getting this error when trying to access the site:

I am considering Go-Daddy (affordable and seems reliable) but reading through their DC forums, there are some config issues (full-text searching, med trust, etc.). Deos anyone have experience deploying Dashcommerce with Go-daddy and can share the known fixes?

Also, any other recommended hosting sites that people have deployed with this starter kit?

Installation has failed message in homepage, but admin page is working

Hi all,

I installed the community (advanced) starter kit (CASK 2.2). The installer works well. After completion of installation, however, the home page (localhost->default.aspx) displays that:

"No community is configured for localhost. If this is the first page that you see after installation, then installation has failed. Here are few things to check: .....".

But I could login as admin and add, change the community also. Since I am runninig the site in the localhost, I have edited the community's primary domain, community domain and community subdomain to be asterisk (*). Changing primary domain to 'localhost' also didn't make sense.

What could be the reason? Suggest me please.

Images not caching in browser

Hello all,

I've just gone live with my first csk. I'm a relative newbie to the ASP world and am having some issues.

For reasons unknown to me, the images in the site (stored in SQL) are not caching in the browser. Every time the use goes to another page in the site, the header banner reloads. Whilst this is acceptible for broadband users, it almost makes the site unusable via slow connections.

Why store images in database?

I can think of a few good reasons to store images in the database, but I also have one very good reason not to. My web hosting service gives me 200MB of disk space, but only 50MB of SQL Server database space, and I'd rather not have to pay for a huge service upgrade just to store images in my DB. I have considered a few workaround solutions, such as rewriting the middle-teir component to write DB images to the file system, or perhaps changing the Stored Procedures that retrieve and save an image, but haven't tried implementing anything yet.

I'm actually still in the evaluation phase of this starter kit, and I'm considering DotNetNuke as well. DotNetNuke has some distinct advantages over the Starter Kits, including that is stores image files in the file system. I'm leaning in the direction of the starter kits right now because it seems to do a little more "out of the box" (i.e. Photo Galleries) and has a learning curve that is not as steep as DotNetNuke, but I do have to get this image thing resolved.

Has anyone built a workaround for this? Any insights from your comparison of these two systems?

Need assistance. I am trying to get the password reminder to work but it seems to be erroring. I think it has to do with my smtp server. I have tried using my ISP smtp server but i think they may require authentication so I started the smtp virtual server within IIS and pointed it to this by entering localhost, servername, website name. None of these make the form work. Does anyone know what I need to do in order to get this to work as I also want to use the email newsletter option but assuming that wont work since simple email password reminder isnt working.

CSK Architecture Documentation

My web host supplies the original CSK, which I've installed for my site. However, the documentation mentions a CSK Architecture Document, which details how to create your own themes. I've searched high and low, but cannot seem to find this document. Does anyone know where I could get the document, or short of that, how to get started creating my own themes? Thanks!

Unable to Connect to Application With CSK Moved from another site

Here's the situation...

I have "inherited" and application that was developed in asp.net which uses the CSK for authentication. I was supplied this application as a .zip file with a .bak of the databases which i have unzipped and restored onto my server. I have created the site in IIS and I can browse to it. However, when I try to authenticate I get the very helpful error 26 error.

The really cool thing about this situation is that although my client has paid for the development and the intellectual property the developer has not provided the source code, the local developer contact hasn't a clue how the application was originally deployed, and the person who actually did the development has disappeared (presumably having seen the light will re-emerge at a later date as a PHP developer).

What steps do I need to go through to deploy this application in this new environment? Win 2003; SQL 2005; IIS 6; ASP.NET 2.0.50727

Photo Gallery Question

In reviewing documentation, it appears that their is a single gallery for all users. Or (Perferred), can I organize the gallery so that each user can have their own area?

1st i created a new web service which is called communityService.asmx

then i created all the other staff in the Engine/framework/services

and Engine/framework/webboxes

when i tried to add a web reference i fiind the error explained above, i tried to exclued the global.ascx from the project with the same error message :S:S

is there any mistake i made in the sequence of creating the service or what? can any1 explain in details how to create it with all it's related classes untill to reach to the proxy class?

knowing that i made no changes in the original code.

any help will be appriciated.

New Member Email Verification MOD

This MOD allows site operators to configure their CSK site access wise such that a member has to verify their primary email address. Primarily written to help automate access to certain features, as well as limit the number of bogus accounts.

This is accomplished by emailing the newly registered member with a url link with a embedded unqiue id.

If the user successfully completes the verification - they are automatically assigned the role of 'Verified'.

Also included is a modification to a user's profile page - that will allow existing members to click a 'Verify ME" button which will send a verification email to them.

Hello, everyone!
I'm new here and already come with some doubts.
Develop a site based on the Community Starter Kit in my local IIS everything worked very well. However, when tested the site on my ISP, the images in the gallery of photos and books simply are not displayed.
I did some tests with the local server and the remote databases and everything worked well. Concluded then that some detail is not correct on the server. Perhaps someone permission to access or something. The problem is that he is not giving me the proper support. I would love to be helpful.

I have a broken image link of my log in the admin folder. This is the image that shows on the admin pages of CSK. I changed that CSK logo to my logo. It now appears as a broken like after years of working. How do I fix it. My other images all work except this one. My mappings are controlled by me. This seems not to be associated with the general image mappings.

It first showed as a broken picture link on the web but not on the server. I made a copy and dropped it back into the folder on the server to create a new link and broke the link on the server as well. I tried shutting down the server to allow it to reset. No luck! I used Visual Studio 2003 to setup the application. Any Ideas as to how to repari this link?

I am a primary programmer.I download CommunityStarterKitVBVS 1.1,setup it ,and modify it as my needs.All this is ok.But recently I found the CSK search (it is a Linkbutton) looks bad.So I convert the Linkbutton into imagebutton. At my homepage,the imagebutton is fine,and it can work.But when I transfer into the other web pages,the imagebutton can work,but it is not display the image.I want everybody to help me,thanks.

Error on First Build

Our web site is working fine in another developer's machine. I've opened it up from source control (Team Foundation Server). When I go to build it for the first time I get the following error:

The type or namespace name 'StarterKit' does not exist in the namespace 'ASPNET' (are you missing an assembly reference?)

Here's the offending code in Books_BookSection.ascx

I don't see a reference on the machine where it compiles correctly. What am I missing?

Search function - GCN

2005 I made a website using GCN (the other version of CSK developed by Redd) and .NET 1.x. Now after 3 years my client complaines that the search function doesn't work proper and asks me to improve it :-(

Can anyone advise me what to do here? I feel really helpless ...
