I think the eroor is rather weird because I use Windows Xp Home Edition and I don't have IIS installed. As you can see the error occured when I was trying to open the map of the PortalVBVS exemple in the Cassini webserver.

I have created an website which i m able to access on my local machine with http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xx/Login.aspx. But when i give the same url on another machine on the intranet, it does not run. What might be the problem. I have disabled the firewall of my server machine(i m using cassini web server). I m working on aspx for the first time

I want my aspx pages to have html extensions at times.
I looked at the source code and couldnt find what to tweak,
So how do I get cassini to treat process html pages as if they had aspx extension.

How to release port for Cassini?

When using VS 2008 for testing, it will start Cassini at a specific port such as 8000. But sometime the port is in use. When try to start a web project, you will get message as :

Unable to launch the ASP.NET Development Server because port '8000' is in use.

How to release the port for Cassini?

(One way is reboot the whole computer, but that is not what I am looking for for many reasons)

It seems quite a lot of people would like to run Cassini as a service on their systems. Because of that question, I created a sample that allows you to do so. It can be downloaded from http://www.bartdesmet.net/download/Cassini.zip. Included is the source as well as a setup project with an MSI installation of the service.

In fact, this is just a part of a project I've done with Cassini to create a secure download center for software on the internet. I did not review this solution completely (made it in an hour or so), so there can still be bugs in the code. If you've further suggestions to improve this solution, please let me/us know, I'll make the mods then and put the refreshed files on-line.

Cassini - unusual problem - "request will never complete"

Thanks in advance to any experts who can reply.

I have successfully used Cassini Web Server 2.0 with DotNetNuke on other machines, but I am frustrated by today's installation.   This is on my main box which is truly in great shape. (Injured pride!)

Here's the deal: I am on XP Home, so I set up the combo of SQL Server 2005 Express + SQL Server Management Studio + the latest Cassini Web Server 2.0 build.

All goes as expected, beautiful DNN 4.3.6 installation, etc.

But when I click on the "Click Here To Access Your Portal" ... a problem occurs. It is repeatable and I have restored my machine and attempted to install this combo three times with repeatable error.

The error is below ... it seems to do with the URL that Cassini is attempting to use when serving up the DNN application.

When I press "Click Here To Access Your Portal" ...
    * in Firefox, the URL appears as htt p:/ /localhost : xxxx/ (where xxxx is the port assigned by the system's install of DNN)
    Shortly thereafter, I get the following error from Firefox:
            "The page isn't redirecting properly --
              Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this
              address in a way that will never complete. This problem can sometimes
              be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies."

   * in IE 6.0, it does indeed do exactly that ... the process just loops trying to load the page, and I eventually have to kill IE 6.0

One Clue (?) the URL ... isn't it supposed to be a longer URL with a specific numerical domain after the xxxx/   ???

the problem is that i don't know how to grant write permission to the aspnet account so that it can store files on the server?

403 Error

Hello,

I'm totally new to asp.NET so I apologise if I'm a little clueless.

I'm trying to connect to an Access database from Dreamweaver 2004 MX, everything seems to be fine until I complete the connection string, I then recieve a 403 - Forbidden error.
I've tried everything I can think of, Cassini seems to be running fine, Dreamweaver "sees" the server running but no matter what I put into the string (and even if I leave it totaly blank) I get the same error.

This is the string:

Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;
Data Source=c:\webs\test\database\test.mdb;
User ID=[username];
Password=[password];

I've run it with the user and password fields deleted but still no joy

In cassini the application path is set to "C:\webs\test" and the server is http://localhost/webs/test/

I'm using XP home and I', assuming its a permission problem but I've no idea where or how to check it correctly, I'd be grateful for any help.

Serving ASP.NET production applications in Cassini

Could someone give me a quick overview, or point me to instructions, about serving ASP.NET production applications in Cassini? I have downloaded, installed, and ran Cassini locally for development purposes. I now want to create an installer for the application, include Cassini in the installer, and specify that Cassini serve the application when the installer is ran on the production machine. Thusfar I haven't been able to find instructions for using Cassini in a production environment.

I have done this...

1. Start Cassini ('CassiniWebServer.exe')
2. Set Application Directory: C:\inetpub\wwwroot
3. Set Server Port: 80
4. Set Virtual Root: /

Possible conflict with another web server on the same port. However as far as I know there isnt -_-

can anyone help?

Im using a Wrox textbook to learn ASP.net. I use their example website to view source-code in VS Express 2005 and all has been fine.

Ive never submitted a website to IIS, though I have installed it.

I recently installed VS 2008 Profesional Edition.

Loading the website in VS 2008's Cassini throws the same error.

ASP.net Client Web Server and Desktop Application

A client of mine has an ASP.net/Sql Server application. They want to release a desktop version of this application. Our first thought was to use WinForms and share as much code as possible in the business logic code libraries. Someone then raised the possibility of repackaging the existing ASP.net code into a desktop application, and including with the install some type of Client Web Server that could run the ASP.net code on the user's website. This would save hundreds, if not thousands of hours of coding time, as the modifications to the existing ASP.net site would be negligible compared with coding a WinForms desktop app from scratch.

It seems that in theory, Cassini could server as the web-server component for such a distributed application.

Has anyone done this before? Some of our main concerns are:

Can this be done? Can the webserver be included as part of the installation of the asp.net files, with everything configured so that it will really work?
Our target user-base includes many people who are not tech-savvy, and many companies (like banks) where the IT departments are very security conscious. Is this type of application something that will raise some alarms among some of these IT departments (who would allow regular desktop applications, but might be more hesitant about allowing people to install personal web servers).
Assuming the answers to the previous questions are that it is feasible and it isnt something that would be blocked by your above-average IT department, I would appreciate any advice in terms of implementation, especially from people who have done this in the past.
