Unforuntately, I gave up before I read your post so I've not had the opportunity to try to see what you are suggesting will work. I am sure it would.

Anyway, just to say thanks, everything is working now because I just got a new machine with a fresh install : D

Hi,

If we disable Add-ins (“Tools” | “Add-in Manager”) and run “devenv.exe /safemode” loading only the default environment and services, do we still have the problem? This can eliminate the possibility that third party Add-ins are causing problems.

The templates file exists in following locations by default. You can check whether Windows Service exists. If it doesn't exist, you can try to copy it from another machine or repair your Visual Studio.

• <VisualStudioInstallDir>\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplates\Language\Locale\
• <VisualStudioInstallDir>\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplates\Language\Locale\

Visual Studio 2003 Missing Template

Hi,

I've installed Visual Studio 2003 on my development machine which also runs Visual Studio 2005 and 2008 on Windows XP 32bit Service Pack 3 to debug an old Windows Service application.

However in Visual Studio 2003, when I go to create a new C Sharp project, I do not have the Windows Service template available. I've googled this at odds length and have not been able to find anything related to VS2003.

Is there a reason for this? Am I really missing something or am I just being dumb?
