MSDE 2000 from ASP.Net Web Matrix

I have installed MSDE 2000. When I try to create my new database in ASP.Net Web Matrix I'm told that the server can't be connected to or doesn't exist. But it does - I can see the icon and it's telling me it is on. What could be the problem?

Hello guys.

I have been working with Visual Studio's for my C# development. I need to use the web matrix now to create a website for a project for my studies. I have images that i would like to add to my website. i can give it's src"" as a local source, it only shows up on the designer not when i run the website. Is there a way that i could add image files as a resource to my website in webmatrix asp.net ?

Moving controls on Design Page with a smooth motion

Hi folks,

You may know, that if you place a control on the Design page, you can select the control and then click on the Absolute Position button on you toolbar which will allow you to place the control anywhere you want on the screen with having to issue alot of carriage returns and spaces to put it where you want it go.

My question is this. When I try to move the control, it seems to snap to various locations in lieu of moving smoothly allowing me to place it exactly where I want it to go. What I end up doing is moving it to be close to where I want it and then going back into the HTML to set the pixel locations to match between controls causing the controls to all be in perfect alignment.

Is there a better way? There must be.

i am new with web matrix and when i started learning it i opened the data grid and i have noticed that the auto format link is missing at the bottom right corner any possible solution to this problem if anybody knows about it thankyou

I have recently acquired a 6-year old PC running Win XP Pro with Service Pack 3. I have installed ASP.NET Web Matrix, Version 0.6 (Build 812) and it's running fine, including off-line testing of auto-generated eMails (with IIS).

There is one annoying problem: the PC crashes completely every time I use the mouse to drag the vertical scrollbar in Code View. The work-around is to use page Up/Down and to avoid using the scrollbar altogether - a bit inconvenient but I think I could get used to it.

I have tried 3 different mice (2 PS/2 and 1 USB) but they all cause the crash as described above. Alt/Ctrl/Del doesn't work and I have to reboot every time.

Can anyone please suggest a fix?

can't connect to microsoft ASP.NET web matrix server

greetings

i have developed my first page but when i press f5 the dialog box appears with start a new web application but when i press start a message appers on the botton right corner of my computer screen saying microsoft asp.net web matrix server - port 8080 and then it opens a new windows but after few moments it display the page can't be displayed message i have tried giving other port number but it gives the same message all the time and does'nt not display my page which i have just designed with web matrix. i will be very thank ful if anybody can tell me the possible solution in displaying my web page or connecting to server thank you.

MSDE question

Hi Everyone

I'm a hardware guy who's been drafted into working on our company website. It's actually a lot more fun than I thought it would be :)

Here's my question: How do you maintain a MSDE database?

What I mean is, in Access you do a 'compact on close' or select 'compact and repair' from a menu, is there something like this that needs to be done to an MSDE database?

I imagine some type of maintenance must be done to it, but I'm clueless as to how to go about it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

how do i connect to a myqsl database on my own computer.

does any have a code-sample that inserts something simple into a table in the database.

i prefer to use c#.

DataGrid Control Properties - Missing Auto Format Link

Recently I've noticed the link to Auto Format Datagrids is missing from the properties window in Web Matrix on several machines I work with. My first thought was it had something to do with .NET 2.0, but I haven't installed the framework on any of my development platforms yet. It is still available when developing applications using Visual Studio 2003. Looking through recent O.S. hotfixes I did find a Security Update which installed some components of .NET 2.0.

After uninstalling the reference to .NET 2.0 from Add/Remove Programs, the Auto Format Link returned to the DataGrid Properties window. I'm sure the next time O.S. files are updated the installation will occur again and link will disappear. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem and perhaps more importantly arrived at a more eloquent solution than my ugly hack? Is there a way in Web Matrix to designate which .NET framework is to be used?

Importing custom namespaces in WebMatrix

I have implemented web service in a file called NewFile.asmx, I've called the class and NameSpace that are asked at the begginning NewFile to both.

I've an ASP.NET page in the same directory and I want to call the web service, I believe it shoul work by having <%@ import namespace="NewFile" %> at the beggining and after creating an instance with Dim service As New NewFile(), but it doesnt work at all. It throws the error "NewFile isn't defined". Can someone, please, help me?

System.Windows.Forms

Hi,

I am trying to do some programming in C#.net and it seems that webmatrix is having trouble with the System.Windows.Forms namespace. It's really probably just me using it wrong, but it won't let me declare a DataGridViewCellStyle or use MessageBox.Show() or many other things that are supposed to be part of System.Windows.Forms. Even when I say

<% import NameSpace = "System.Windows.Forms" %>

it says that namespace cannot be found.

Is this a common and known problem with webmatrix or am I doing something wrong(I hope it's #2).

simple sql query with datareader

I'm just learning sql integration into asp, and want to just return a value as a string from a datareader. Having a hard time searching the forums or google, so asking for a bit of guidance here.

I can use the select data methods fine to create a full datagrid, but I just want to do a simple lookup, along the lines of "select customer_name where customer_no = 3" and then just have that return placed into my label1.text field.

The code is like

Sub Page_Load(sender as object, e as EventArgs)
function get_custname ('select datareader method code here)

'then on button press

label.text = get_custname(3)

I know you can't use that format to change label.text, but logically that's what i'm trying to do. Am I going about it wrong to try to just do a simple sql query like that? Is there some other function I should be using instead of trying to use a datareader?

Hi,

Last evening I modified the three config files in the Web Matrix folder (WM, Web Server and Class Browser) to target the .NET Framework beta 2. And it works, the WM app launches correctly and everything is cool !
So I tested some job done with .NET 1 and .NET 1.1, and it works too !

Web Matrix seems to be ready for the future !

i have installed asp.net1.1.......now i am trying to start web matrix server on port 80 but it is not opening......i don't have iis installed .......still i tried it on 8080 but its not opening.....what should i do? plz help

error rendering control

Hi,

I'm sure this has probably been asked and answered but i cant find a post for it so could someone point me in the right direction. When i drag a web control onto the design view page, i get an error box instead of the control. The error says "Error Rendering Control - TextBox1". It then says "An unhandled exception has occured. Register for event validation can only be called during render()"

This is my first run at asp so hoping someone out there can help.

Web Matrix on Vista?

I'm moving all of my legacy 1.1 work over to a new system that uses Vista. I need to keep these archives active to support older clients. I instaled Web Matrix and, to my surprise, it seems to run well as does the Cassini dev server. But, before I start any editing, I need to make sure there are no issues that are going to either blow up my apps/code or inject weird crap. Or have it crashing on me at a crucial moment. I need to retain Web Matrix to maintain the old 1.1 apps until I can work with the client to allow conversion to 2.0 and VWD. Really translates into whether I need to keep an old XP system around or not.

Anyone have experience with this and care to comment?

using a messageBox

I am Using Web Matrix.
My Goal was to have a messageBox appear when I clicked on a button.

In trying to accomplish that I now have several questions.

In order to use MessageBox I believe that I have to import the following namespace

System.Windows.Forms

I have discovered that I cannot use
using System.Windows.Forms

instead I have to use the format I have below.

First the code

<%@ Page Language="C#" Debug="true" %>
<%@ import Namespace="System" %>
<%@ import Namespace="System.Windows.Forms" %>

In addition I went to the "Classes" tab in Web Matrix and I made sure that the System.Windows.Forms was added to the class list.

However. When I run the code, the system seems to choke on System.Windows.Forms

I thought maybe I didn't add enough items. I specfically looked for the option of adding Just "System.Windows" but I did not find that option.

I guess my questions are as follows:

1. Why am I getting this error when I have added Systems.Windows.Forms using the "Classes" Tab and customize option?

2. How do I ensure that the message box comes up on the client side and not the user side?

3. Why is it that Web Matrix has to use thie <%@ import Namespace= "blablabla" %> type of format instead of something more intuitive like: using System.Windows.Forms

trouble starting program

i am using web matrix project v0.5.464 and i always start it up to it saying fatal execution erroe (0x7927baca) it then i click ok then it wants me to debug the application from there i click cancel (which means debug the application for some wierd reason)

it then says

"Registered JIT debugger is not available an attempt to launch a JIT debugger with the following resulted in an error in code 0x2 (2) please check computer settings"

cordbg.exe !a 0xe88

does anyone know what i can do i know i need a debugger but i have no idea

Where can i find them?

how they work?

do they cost money?

do they come with every computer ( i have xp)?

if these questions could be awnsered that would be great if anyone has any alternative solutions that would also be appreciated

P.S. i have already tried to reinstall the program so that isnt the problem

ASP web matrix gives an error when opened.

I installed ASP webmatrix but whenever i opwn a aspx page it gives me an error, which says that there was a invalied memory reference error ......... the exact error

The instruction at "0x03886e8d" reference memory at "0x7a2affff". THe memory could not be "read"

Can some one please tell me how to fix this.
