"my posts" is "everybody's posts"

reminds me of the song "This land is your land, this land is my land ...".

issue: very frequently, but not all the time, I will click "My Posts", between "Edit Profile" and "Sign Out" in the upper right corner of the forums.asp.net window and be taken to what appears to be everybody's posts.

When I click "My Posts" and second time, I actually get Gerry Lowry's posts.

Firefox 3.5.4
Windows Server 2003 Standard SP2

How to make sticky threads?

Hi everybody,

In the SQLDataSource forum I'm frequent here I see 3 questions that are repeated at least once per week.

1. How to get Identity field back after insert.

I propose this recent thread http://forums.asp.net/p/1481883/3460628.aspx#3460628 to be a sticky thread at the top of this forum.

2. How to pass list of values in form of IN parameter.

I propose this thread http://forums.asp.net/p/1483846/3470182.aspx#3470182 to be a sticky one.

3. How to concatenate values per group.

We can take the most recent thread http://forums.asp.net/p/1484988/3475834.aspx#3475834 and make it a sticky one too.

Would it be possible to do something like this?

Constantly getting redirected to the error page??

I have been using this site for a few months now; and I have noticed that I frequently get redirected to the error page:

This happens no matter which forum I am trying to visit; or if I am trying to visit "my posts" or "unanswered posts." It happens around one out of every 5 to 10 times that I try to look at a post or forum. Is this a known issue?

I find it interesting that many sites now days - espn.com cnet.com cnn.com - to mentions just a few of the thousands out there - have mobile auto-detectiing versions of their websites - and yet this site - supposedly one of the industry leaders for web technology -a site the striongly pushes Microsoft technology while Microsoft is currently strongly pushing mobile technology - DOES NOT !!

when you try to download this control http://www.asp.net/community/control-gallery/Item.aspx?i=681 and try "continue to Download" you get an error 404.

I propose to create a new forum
(or the new forums)
for discussion of
Suggestion for VS2010 Beta 2 and .NET 4.0

There is special site for this.

But:
1)
it is pain in the that hole to get to it;
2)
Many dozens times more people are interested in discussion,
exchange of opinions rather than just firing (and forgetting) reports
into that black hole

It seems to me that posts, initiated in
Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2
forum, appear, upon submission, being marked as Resolved.

Though I am not sure since I cannot test it due to the fact that I cannot delete my own posts.

It would have been more comfortable to have them as Unresolved from the scratch

accidental Necro-Posting and how it can be avoided (at least some of the time)

I replied to Re: Difference between ASP.net and VB.net and noticed Kris had also replied.

I was reply to kamii47 who was asking about the differences between c# 2.0 and vb 2.0 ...
my reply was rejected because the post was suddenly locked. I alerted the moderators.

I then noticed an e-mail stating that Kris a.k.a. XIII has deleted my post for Necro-Posting.

At that point I realized that I was accidentally Necro-Posting.

SUGESSTION: in Recent Posts, please include the date and display it prominently.

REASON: in general, dates in posts do not stand out very well.

There are many cases when the question has answer but the problem is not resolved
(it is bug) and the situation may change in the future.
So, it should be marked as Unresolved.
For ex.,

When I mark my post in a thread initiated by me,
then the combobox continues to show "Not Resolved"
(repeating this choice is useless to result).

But forum list shows this thread as Resolved.
So, in order to mark this thread as "Not Resolved,
it is necessary to make many unnecessary operations:

- like navigating out of the thread
- reopening the thread
- marking it as "Not Resolved
- then refreshing/navigating to the forum list to check that the thread appears correctly marked

Can it be changed/configured for changing the status without closing the thread?

As I have tested here and I can hit the post button 2 times and my post get added to the thread 2 times

If I hit 3+ times, it says Duplicate post and want not allow to post.

"Why on Earth would the user be pressing the post button 3+ times?" may be I'm connected with low speed internet.

I see "Resolved" only in thread's text that I initiated (it is really combobox with choises to make change).
This is of no use in searches:
- I remeber what I have discussed;
- I usually search for other thread for unknown to me solution

So, "Resolved" is completely irrlevent info for finding something.
Even more, I even theoretically cannot understand how it may be helpful in searches.

As I understand, "Resolved" is really the administration feature
accessible only by moderators and topic starters.
I doubt that restricted info will be accessible by crawlers/searches.
It is not available even for (most) registered users.
It would have been security flaw if crawlers get restricted (to certain roles of registered users) info.

I also would like to draw attention of moderators to stop this feve of marking
all answered topics as "Resolved".
If it is bug, then the issue cannot be resolved but may have satisfying and helpful, on that moment of time, answers and marked so.
But, the situation may necrochange later, might be in years due to release of new framework version.

So, even theoretically, if it could have worked practically, "Resolved" is not useful since it is:
- frequently marked incorrectly
- the situation could change with time

How to understand Resolved for topic with answers informing that it is a bug?
Is it "Resolved" or "Not Resolved"?
"Resolved" simply does not tell anything in most problematic discussions.
It doesn't differentiate between (exhaustively) Answered (but Not Reolved)
and Resolved (but Not Answered) and Resolved (and correctly Answered) cases!
"REsolved" alone is simply non-informative and ambiguous!

Another reason in favor of necroposting,
in addition to mentioned above, that I forget to mention,
5)
when I necro-answer, then the people, might be 1-2 in the world
who know answers or interested in this very narrow specific area,
are notified by Email about answers in their topic!

6)
The topic could be exhaustively answered but not resolved.
It will probably will be resolved in a few years in the next generation of framework or VS.
Why not to necroinform about it all interested (usually subscribed for notifications by Email)
in this?

And,
the rationale under closing necroposts is still open

dynamic data template is from Visual Studio SP1, not .NET SP1

The page here http://asp.net/dynamicdata/ states that you get the dynamic data templates for Visual Studio from the .NET 3.5 SP1, and provides a link to it.

I believe this is incorrect.

The dynamic data templates for Visual Studio are actually in the Visual Studio SP1, which happens to include the .NET 3.5 SP1.

Well, it is not really on debugging but on HTTP interception and not really always 3d party.

Separate Section for jQuery?

I've been chastised a few times for posting jQuery related questions in the Client-Side Development section. I do see their point but at the same time, would like to tap into the knowledge of the ASP.Net community. With jQuery to be integrated into VS2010, perhaps it's long overdue to create a separate section for jQuery? I would like to see it located directly below Client-Side Development.

Dummy or test article is being dispalyed in "Article of the Day"

In the main website page (www.asp.net) , the article of the day contains a dummy article or something that seems to be entered for testing purpose.

I waited a lot of hours because i though it could be cached and will disappear automatically but it's still there.

1. I want to show comments to my blogs with grey or silver background same as http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2009/11/02/november-conferences.aspx#7245760

2. Also width given in http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/ is in percentage (95%).

I found that the Width is given as

width: 95%;
}

in DynamicStyle.css file.

But, my weblog control panel doesn't allow me to give width of page in percentage. It always suffixes px at the end and does not allow % character.

Am I doing something wrong?

ASP.NET frequency & no. of unanswered messages - sign of unstable platform?

Is it just me or does there seem to be an awful amount of messages that are getting unanswered? Or if they are unresolved, they are automatically resolved by someone else and not the originator?

Is this a sign that ASP.NET as a technology is failing from a stability and usability point of view? I certainly think it could be, I would have thought as the technology stabilizes, there would be less problems coming in?

The code of old threads is no longer styled well.

I was looking at some of the threads that are older than six months and noticed that the code that was appearing colored is no longer colored.

I looked at the old code colors css classes and found that "coloredcode" class is no longer found in the css files.

I know that there are now a new editor which have it's own styles but i think the css styles that were used by the old code formatter should stay available so that the users can still see a colored code in the old threads.
