Steps for Upgrading WSS 3.0 to MOSS-2007 or Installing Infopath Form Service on WSS 3.0

I have configured Extranet Https Portal for our configuration.It includes some custom web-parts features in the site.

My WSS 3.0 -Cenrtal Admin version is 12.0.0.6421
I have MOSS 2007 - Central Version 12.0.0.6219

Now I have designed a Infoapth form and want to publish to a library in the site.We can publish the form to a library but At client side Infopath 2007 sholud be installed in order to submit the form.It is not Browser Enabled.

( You cannot enable InfoPath Forms Services in WSS, because it is not present in WSS. Before you can enable InfoPath Forms Services, you have to install Forms Server or MOSS Enterprise.
It is not Browser enabled. )

Infopath form services is a component of MOSS not WSS

Is there any other way instead of intalling Moss 2007 can I only Install Infoapth Form services on it.

Can I upgrade the WSS 3.0 to MOSS 2007 and get the Infoapth form services to the existing site without any loss of data.

I have read that while upgrading wss to moss the central admin version should be same then only you can upgrade is this true??

what steps I need to consider ??

Problems enabling incoming e-mail WSS

Hello together,

at the moment I am having problems with the enabling of incoming mail in SharePont libraries with WSS 3.0 (SP2).

I already posted this issue in the MSDN SharePoint forum, but the source of the problem seems to be HMC related.
They have told me to post the problem in this forum, I hope this forum is correct and someone can help me.

It is a dedicted Windows Share Point Services 3.0 server.

The SMTP server is installed
I already enabled the general incoming mail settings on "Operations" --> "Incoming e-mail settings", the ldap path is correct (copied from adsiedit.msc)

I receive an "Error in the application" when I want to enable "Incoming e-mail settings" in a library.

The application pool identity of the web application and the central administration is the same. The identity has rights on the OU to create objects. For testing, I added the identity to the domain admin group. Addtional the identity is Secondary Site Collection Administrator and Farm Administrator.

In the WSS log I see the following enty:
System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryServicesCOMException (0x8007200B): The attribute syntax specified to the directory service is invalid. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007200B) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.CommitChanges() at Microsoft.SharePoint.EmailIntegration.SPEWSADManager.CreateContact(String Alias, String FirstName, String LastName, String ForwardingEmail, ContactFlags Flags)SPEWSADManager::CreateContact

The entry in the error log sounds like that the AD schema does not extend correctly, so maybe this is a HMC problem?

Im having a moss 2007 server and it is working fine.. im having 10 projects site.

Now what i need is to automatically collect the tasks of users under a project done for a week and store it in an excel file.

the weekly status report must be generated on every monday..

this must be done for the 10 projects..

how to make this...

Pls provide me some suggestions.....

Hi all,

i re-installed MOSS in my server 2003.All process are successful..Then i installed Service pack 1 for both.i ran Configuration wizard..But finally it shows "Configuration failed Error"..

When i tried update the updates through the command prompt by,

Providing RMS Protection to PDF documents stored in WSS document libraries

Hi,

I am trying to rights-protect PDF documents that are stored in SharePoint document libraries. I understand that you have to write custom protectors as a protector for PDF is not available from microsoft. Now i dont want to use Adobe LiveCycle rights management platform. I have already contacted Gigatrust who provides protector and desktop add-in as well for rights-protecting PDF documents. But that is for MOSS. They dont support WSS.
I am using WSS 3.0.
So what approach should i take to accomplish this?
Is there any other way to right protect PDF documents?
Please point me in the right direction as i searched a lot but could not get a concrete solution to the problem.
If anybody has already done this please help

Getting "access denied error 401" when creating a new site in HMC 4.5 with sample gui

Creating a tenant's business organization, the admin and subscribing to a hosted sharepoint service works. We can't create a WSS site for that tenant. The error message says "HTTP 401 access denied". We can verify that on WSS Server in IIS logs. The account used to create the WSS site is the tenants admin. That looks strange as we thought it would be MPSPrivAcct-xxxxx. If we grant the admin access rights (farm admin) the creation of the site works and we can log on to the Sharepoint Site.

But we don't want to grant (manually!) all customers admin rights on the WSS Server. Any ideas?

One of my challenges is that I'm using ASP.NET MVC which really limits my integration. What I'm really looking for are some web services to call from WSS and I'll handle the UI. Hello,

My question concerns sharepoint installation. I earlier installed sharedpoint 2007 it was fine later for some reasons I uninstalled it. Now when I installed, I selected the Advanced -> Complete. Now when it asks me wether i want to continue with the existing or new server farm i selected the new, i gave the user name as "mydomain\administrator" and the pwd i gave is the same which i use for windows authentication.

When I go for the central administration, I have to enter user name and password many times and this seems that i am missing on something, as i didn't think happened when i had the fresh installation earlier. Can anyone suggest me what i am missing or what is the likely way to get it done.

Custom Field Type with Custom editor problem

Hi guys,

I'm a newbie in sharepoint technologies. I've been trying for a week to create a custom field type (Simple Lookup) with a custom editor (simpleLookupEditor.ascx). I previously hardcoded the URL and the List to be shown in the column and it worked smoothly. When i created a user control file for the field type editor to get the URL and a list in that URL its not working. I've been studying all the posts regarding this. When i use the property schema the editor is loading while creating the column. But when i use the ascx file and assign it using FieldEditorUserControl property in the field type definition its not loading at all. When i select the Radio Button corresponding to my custom field type the page is loading and showing "Unknown Error". In what cases will i get this error? I've checked everything in fldypes*.xml and singleLookupEditor.ascx file. I'm not able to figure out the problem. Even if i try to debug its not hitting the breakpoints.

problem with LDAP in sharepoint

HI,

i have tried by adding defaultProvider in all three web.configs(CA, Extended, actual site) .

i was able to get LDAP users(people picker) and add it in internet site also(but LDAPFBAMembership:username is not accepting and throwing error, only username it has taken). But even after adding, i 'm unable to login with added username credentials and giving following error

"

The server could not sign you in. Make sure your user name and password are correct, and then try again.

"
i even reset the IIS also. What could be wrong?

I have an existing IIS Web application asp.net and C# using SQL for authentication. The passwords are encrypted inside of the DB. Is there any way to setup something to pass the credentials to sharepoint so users do not have to retype their username and password?

I have looked at Sharepoint forms and SSO methods but I am new to sharepoint so I am not sure how I would be use either of these to accomplish this task.

sharepoint - deploy web service without creating a virtual directory

I have a wcf web service and want to deploy that to my sharepoint solution.

in IIS I have created a virtual directory that points to the webservice in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80_wcf. the web service was copied across from the 12 hive to this directory.

is there a nicer way of just deploying the web service and not having to do any of this stuff of copying across web services (.svc + web.config files)...and creating a virtual directory etc..

LDAP Authentication Problem

I developed an application in sharepoint and configured it with LDAP. But i am unable to login tot he site using AD credentials.

and then added above tags in web.config file of both sites(actual site and extended one) and also in Central admin's web.config file. Then in Authentication Provider (Central Adminstration-->Application Management ) changed the authentication type to form and added the provider as well as Role name. But still i'm unable to login using the proper credentials.

Can anyone please tell me, where i am going wrong or i'm missing any step.

I am looking at migrating from an in house SharePoint server to a hosted solution.

The hosted solution has far fewer web parts available so i'm trying to solve the following problem.

Currently, we have a site called Projects, and under that we have 3 sites called active proposals, current projects and completed projects. Each project we work on we create a site in active proposalse then use the 'manage content and structure' to move the site to current projects and finally to completed projects.

In the hosted environment we don't have access to the Manage content and structure, so this won't work.

So i thought we could put all project sites at the same level and create a status field. And on the projects page somehow list all sites with each status. The only web part available is the XML Query web part though.

So, my question is, is there any way to get a list of sites, filtered by a field, in XML?

Like how you use owssvr.dll to get documents in a list.

Simple question.

Now if user goes to http://host, server redirects to http://host/personal/username.....

How to setup Sharepoint and set page default (ex. http://host/default.aspx)

Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SharePoint.Library, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

I get this error when i add the reference of Microsoft.Sharepoint.dll in my web application. My requirement is to display the Performance point Server Dashboards and Reports in my web application.

When i deployed this application on the same server where the share point is deployed and tried using the

<WebPartPages:SPWebPartManager ID="WebPartManager1" runat="server" EnableClientScript="true"/>

control i get the error Object reference not set to instance of an object.
I have registered the control using the following:

<%@ Register TagPrefix="WebPartPages" Namespace="Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages"
Assembly="Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" %>

Is there any workaround for this problem.

Tried registering the Microsoft.SharePoint.Libary as well to the page but it didn't worked.

The virtual directory created is in the default website of the IIS and Sharepoint is deployed as a different Website..
Could this be a reason for the error?

Also if you could referrer me to a link/ book explaining in details the integration of the Three -> Performance Point -> Share Point -> Website. that would be great....

Button Click Event in User Control is not working (SharePoint)

Hi,

I have created a custom page in SharePoint (Employee.aspx) which will add the User in the DataBase. For this Employee page i used a serControl (ucEmployee.ascx). This form contains 3 textboxes (Full Name, login name and Email) and 2 Button (Ok & Cancel).

The page is integrated with the SharePoint Successfully. But when I Click on any button (OK or Cancel) then these events are not fired.

Can any one tell me that why button events inside user control is not firing. It will show the 'An unexpected error has occurred. ' on SharePoint page after clicking on button

WSS 2.0 / Sharepoint 2003

I have a big problem. I had a perfectly running sharepoint 2003 enviroment in a VPC untill i needed to reinstall. After i installed the windows sharepoint services 2.0 i open a website. Instead of displayin the default controls i get the message "Web Part Error: A Web Part or Web Form Control on this Web Part Page cannot be displayed or imported because it is not registered on this site as safe. " but when i check the web.config in the wwwroot directory i see that all the default webparts are added, what could be the trouble here? Something that went wrong during installation?

When to use SharePoint

Hi,

I want to develop an intranet web-application which must be able to do some basic things like leave request, HR mngt, time sheet... I know these are posible in SharePoint but what i want to know is how easy is it to do.. As i am new to SharePoint i want to know for such or even more complex application what i can chose (ASP.NET or SharePoint Services). Can i develop same applications on ASP.NET and SharePoint? What about the database will i be able to use ADO.NET the same way as i use in ASP.NET? I read that each List in WSS is a table in SQL but can i use relations how can i define Table Relations?? Please Help Me...
