In other words, I didn't use the setup.exe file, I drilled down to the install file for each component, .net framework, VWD. I was having a problem with Windows Installer 3.0; or something like that. It kept wanting to install that first.

Wish I had an answer for you, good luck,
SMC

Re: Cannot install or uninstall VWD Express

Hi smcmiata, thanks for the reply.

My work around was to install VWD from the "image" file download. Then you have to extract the files from the image by using some 3rd party software (there are a couple of links on the download webpage). And even then, I had to drill down to a setup file inside a folder. I think it was the "lxpvwd.exe" file.

I tried your suggestion, but with no success. I've managed to narrow-down the installation problems, as you can see in my 2nd post in this thread. If you (or anyone else) could throw any more light on the issue, I would be grateful.

Regards,

Alan

Re: Cannot install or uninstall VWD Express

I am sorry, but I just signed up, this is not an answer related to the subject but, How Can I post or open a question". My work around was to install VWD from the "image" file download. And even then, I had to drill down to a setup file inside a folder. I think it was the "lxpvwd.exe" file.

It turns out that VWD will not work on our XP boxes unless Service Patch 2 is installed. However our network does not use SP2. When I tried to install SP2, it crashed my PC; ruined Windows XP and it had to be rebuilt. I now run VWD on a Win2k PC with no problems.

I don't know if this helps, but I needed to vent my frustrations too!

Cannot install or uninstall VWD Express

I have been using VWD Express for about a month now with no problems at all, but now when I run VWDExpress.exe I get the message "Cannot find one or more components. Please reinstall the application." I re-ran VWDSetup.exe (downloaded from the MSFT website) - it unpacks a few files, then runs a file Setup.exe, which soon consumes 99% of CPU activity and does nothing!

I tried uninstalling VWD and .NET 2.0 via. control panel -> add/remove programs. Again, both attempts at removal were unsuccessful.

So then I tried reinstalling VWD from a MSFT CD. AutoRun tries to run a file Setup.hta, but I get the message "Windows cannot find 'Setup.hta'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search." If I run Setup.hta directly from the CD, then click the 'Install' button for VWD, I get a 'Internet Explorer Script Error' message which says...
"An error has occurred in the script in this page
Line: 94 Char: 5 Error: Permission denied Code: 0 URL:file://D:\setup.hta
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page? Yes/No"
Clicking both Yes and No options do nothing.

Help!! I can't run, uninstall or reinstall VWD. I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Has anyone any ideas?

Any help would be appreciated.

Alan
