Difference between Project Manager and Consultant roles

Hi All,

I am trying to use this issue tracker on some of projects and I am not able to understand the difference between the Project Manager and Consultant role with respect to its permissions. Can someone tell me what exactly is PM able to access which the consultant is not able to ?

Database Connection problem

I installed the app and it seemed to go fine.

When I started it, the login screen came up and when I tried to login admin/admin I got the following

Continue 2 - Vista-IIS7-.net 2-SQL2005 problem - Stuck at login page

Hi,

I have resolved the issues i have listed on previous posts. Now i have another problem. I got stuck on the login page. The symptoms:

When i run the app, i get the DesktopDefault.aspx page and the login screen. When i enter user/pass it only refreshes the login page, gives no exception and don't let me go further.

i tried to debug the app. I have found out that Context.User.Identity.AuthenticationType value is blank. I think it should have been "Forms".

My web.config file has the following lines;

            <forms loginUrl="DesktopDefault.aspx" timeout="600"/>
</authentication>

By the way i'm using SQL connection and i have the following related lines in the web.config file;

   <add key="ConnectionString" value="Server="Server_name";UID="username";PWD="password";database=IssueTracker"/>
   <add key="DataAccessType" value="ASPNET.StarterKit.IssueTracker.DataAccessLayer.SQLDataAccessLayer"/>

I really stuck on this position and need help.

ps: One more debug issue, I put a breakpoint in Login method of the DesktopDefault.aspx.cs file (on the first if clause which is if (Page.IsValid) { ). When i click on Sign-in button, the code never reaches to this breakpoint. I don't know why!

Hi,

I have successfully setup and converted the IssueTracker source code on my Vista Premium machine. Now i have a build error saying:

Error 1 Could not load type 'ASPNET.StarterKit.IssueTracker.Global'. C:\Program Files\ASP.NET Starter Kits\ASP.NET IssueTracker (CSVS)\IssueTrackerStarterKit\Global.asax 1

Well, i'm a bit unfamiliar with web programming. Any help would be appreciated.

ps: I was getting the same error when i try to connect to the web site when i first install the IssueTrackerStarterKit before i converted and build the source code. So i assume it is nothing to do with the conversion process and/or .net framework version.

Cannot setup on IIS 7.0-Vista Ultimate machine

Hi,

I'm trying to setup the issue tracker starter kit on a Vista Ultimate machine. When the setup comes to create the virtual directories part, it cannot see the default web site. So i stuck. Anybody have an idea on this? Is it because of the IIS 7.0 or am i missing some file system permission configuration that i should have set before the installation? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How to extend Session timeout?

Hi all,

I have been playing around with Issue Tracker source code, however I couldn't figure out how to extend the session timeout. I believe the current timeout is around 20 minutes, which coincides with the default session state timeout. But i found out that the session state is not defined in the web.config file. This is because the Issue Tracker does not use the session state at all. So by setting session state timeout to a longer time does not solve the problem. Since Issue Tracker uses forms based authentication, it checks for (Request.IsAuthenticated == true) in the global.asax file. A user is redirected to the login page if Request.IsAuthenticated returns false. Apparently Request.IsAuthenticated is set to false after 20 minutes of idle time. This is strange because the authentication ticket is set to expire in 10 hours (line 124 in global.asax.cs file) instead of 20 minutes. And it seems to me Request.IsAuthenticated is not controlled by the authentication ticket because even if i manually delete the cookie immediately after I login, the Request.IsAuthenticated still returns true.

Can anyone tell me how to extend the timeout so that Request.IsAuthenticated does not return false in like 1 hour? Thanks.

Hi All,

Great App, and I apologize if this has been discussed already. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and/or if anyone is aware of a solution?

What is happening is in the News List of the My Web Pages Starter Kit (Swirl template) any information and html coding entered here for formating just disappears. Somewhere, somehow all the html code is getting stripped off leaving text that is really hard to read, squished together and no hyperlinks, etc.

If anyone has encountered this and knows where the issue lies it would be greatly appreciated.

Setting Default selection for owner/assigned/etc status

Automatic e-mail assignment delivery hasn't been implemented yet :(

issue tracker not sending notification

I'm having quite a bit of a problem with my issue tracker. for some reason my issue tracker is not sending notification. this is what i have in the web.config file.

obviously, the hose, port, username, and password is of course what i have to put in but can anyone please help me. Is there something else that I'm missing that I need. Any help, suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

issuenotification.cs not setting notificationEmail

Hello ... can someone please help me to solve this problem. My issuenotification.cs is not setting the notificationEmail. It's setting the notificationId, issueId, notificationUsername, and notificationDisplayName but not the notificationEmail. I've looked around and havent seen anything. Please, any help would be helpful.

Can anyone explain to me why IssueTracker uses such an awkward way of accessing data? Why not simply use ADO.NET? There are tons of books about it and if everyone uses the same methods for accessing data we can all learn from each other and quickly start at a new job.
IssueTracker uses code like this:

Do you see any benefits over regular ADO.NET? Besides, the IssueTracker data access way is not even the fastest: for each row of the result table it again determines which column has name "CommentId", "IssueId", etc. Using GetOrdinal (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/cpref/html/frlrfsystemdatasqlclientsqldatareaderclassgetordinaltopic.asp) you get better performance.

Has anyone done this? I am especially concerned about the installation screen "Creating Virtual Directory". I do not want this website to break the other SBS websites (Remote Web Workplace, OWA, etc.). If you have done it, what did you choose for the "Web Site:" field, and did you use special port numbers for the Issue Tracker website?

Issue Tracker Demo Anywhere?

I'm a site manager who comes from a LAMP background where we used Eventum on MySQL to manage our web development requests from around the company and to connect my HQ team with my army of outside consultants.

Is there an operational version of issue tracker running anywhere that someone can point me to?

Looking for a system on asp.NET that will allow clients to open a request and attach files, then send an e-mail alert to whoever is assigned the issue so they can come back and see the work request and download any attachments. Any assistance for a .NET platform framework that can do this is appreciated.

I noticed one thing in issue tracker kit that some of the method of classes are static and some of them are instance.

I just wanted to know why not all methods are static or instance? What is the design strategy behind keeping some method as static?
