sorry for not coming earlier with an update: after completely removing IIS and Visual Studio then installing them again the problem was gone. Probably it was corrupt installation of one of those, or both.

Hi All,

when we have two versions of .net is installes on the machine. 2003 first and 2005 next.

we need to tell the IIS to work with what version of framework. It is not that simple go to IIS web project properties and and choose the ASP.NET version.

better to run the following command, it will solve all of the prblems (mutex, view state, object referance not foud).

C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727>aspnet_regiis -i

Hi everyone. I have this exact exception happening while my Visual Studio is open and I'm browsing the web application.

All the solutions offered here involve closing the Studio and restrating IIS, so all the solutions here worked great for a short while.

None of the solution offered here is permanent fix.

Anyhow, I have additional information: when I try to perform iisreset, I get exception from w3wp.exe process: "memory could not be written". Not sure if it's related but it's worth mentioning this fact.

If anyone has permanent solution for that silly bug of M$ I'll be very happy. :)

I have followed this thread and have been aware of this problem for 2 years now. I have searched and reviewed all the solutions. I have also tried all the solutions in this thread. Whilst most of them do in fact provide a sort of fix I still get the error. It happens only on projects that I have converted from 1.1 to 2.0. It drives me so mad I've considered converting to the darkside (Java on Linux). If anyone has a real long term solution please get back.

Thats good that it resolved your problem. Actually what happened that when we install IIS after VS then this type problem comes.

The information was very helpful.

I have Vista Business. I faced this issue.

Did the following to resolve it.

- Delete my app from the aspnet folder

- Opened Regedit. Went to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ASP.NET\2.050727.0. Right clicked and added aspnet as user providing it full-control permissions.

- Apart from doing that, when I started Web Developer 2005, I had to open it as an admin. If I normally opened it, i got the mutex error.

Hi,

Go to the Visual Studio Command Prompt and reach at

c:\Windows\Microsoft.net\Framework\v2.0.50727>

and type the command

c:\Windows\Microsoft.net\Framework\v2.0.50727> aspnet_regiis -ga Domain\User

After that, go to the windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727 and there you'll get a temporary file. Just delete it without any hasitation. Rfresh and restart the IIS.

Hope it will resolve your problem.
