For some bizzare reason my Syndication is not working. When you click on the RSS button, the xml has an error in it?

Need help with enabling write permissions for blogengine!

Hello I am novice in asp.net. I just downloaded and installed the asp.net starter kit blogengine. I need to get access into writing posts etc. After I run the application it, the site says;

Write Permissions

To be able to log in to the blog and writing posts, you need to enable write permissions on the App_Data folder. If you’re blog is hosted at a hosting provider, you can either log into your account’s admin page or call the support. You need write permissions on the App_Data folder because all posts, comments, and blog attachments are saved as XML files and placed in the App_Data folder.

If you wish to use a database to to store your blog data, we still encourage you to enable this write access for an images you may wish to store for your blog posts. If you are interested in using Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, VistaDB, or other databases, please see the BlogEngine wiki to get started.

Could anyone help me on how to enable write permissions? i am running the applications on my local computer. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks.

Login Failed for user sa

I've checked the posts and I think i'm missing something very small. Trying to connect to the database with a username/password. I'm running the MSDE version of SQl on W2k3.

Error is Login failed for user 'sa'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.

I thought I would just use the sa account with the password I set during the database create. Not working. when I try to use dbconn.udl as someone requested in an earlier post, I can connect using Windows NT Integrated Security. But not with username.

Can I change my database connect string to use integrated, or do I need to create and associate a username/password with the databsae I created. If so how?

On my 3rd line of code, i have a class of active.  I want to code all of my links that if they are licked, they are active.  The active turns on a background around them to show that it is the current active tab. 
 
Can anyone please help me with this??????

Hi,

I'm running an unmodified dotText latest version on a Windows2003 server. Whenever I click on a 'monthly archive' link I receive the error 'String was not recognized as a valid DateTime.' An example URL is http://blog.swiftalpha.com/archive/2004/07.aspx

The server is configured to use the English regional settings. The web.config reads '<globalization culture="en-US" />' as expected. I've looked around for a solution but didn't find one.

Anyone?

Hi which asp.net data control will be the best to ceate tags panel in asp.net blog site which i am developing.

I am having a list of TagName objects containg the frequency of tags but data controls are displaying this list

as a list what i want is structure like in various other blog sites which show tags cloud with different font sizes rather than list

of tags.

Need help preventing display of some master page content on one .aspx page

As a complete novice, I am using a similar starter kit (BlogEngine.Net). I have a master page (site.master) that controls the general layout for the rest of my .aspx pages. I want all the pages to display the same general content except for one page (home.aspx). I would like part of the masterpage content hidden on home.aspx. Is there a way to write a conditional statement in the master page that will allow or disallow some of the master page content to be displayed based on which .aspx file is active?

If home.aspx is the active page, then hide part of site.master contents. Else-If home.aspx is not the active page, then display all the contents of site.master.

Below are partial contents of site.master (my master page). There is an if statement (bolded below) dealing with site administration stuff that displays administrator content when logged into the site (makes me think my idea is possible). When home.aspx is active, I would like to hide the content that is lined out.

Setting up a new page to work with SQL

Hey everyone,

So far I am getting my website up and running with BlogEngine.NET but I just have one thing I'm trying to figure out. I have a db that has all of my services I want to offer along with their description, price, etc. I want to write code to coneect to my SQL db and display the data.

I was kinda thinking about using the accordian function in AJAX to show everything. I was hoping that someone could help me add the AJAX Accordian to my site and also help me code my SQL.

BlogEngine.NET or dasBlog

I am looking for a .NET blogging tool and BlogEngine.NET and dasBlog seem to be the ones I hear about the most often. For those who have used one or both, how you like them and which one would you recommend going with? I should also mention that I have used Wordpress on the LAMP platform in the past and that meets all my needs completely so if either BlogEngine.NET and dasBlog is remotely similar, that would be a good indication. I'm also open to a completely different .NET blog if there is another tool that is suitable.

Some of the things that would be really nice to have:

-- Total control and easy access to HTML and CSS
-- Automatically generated RSS feeds
-- RSS feeds can modified to only grab posts from a certain category or author
-- Multiple authors
-- Ability to insert latest posts on home page of website (if an RSS feed is generated that this I could just grab it)
-- Comments on/off on a post by post basis
-- Display by date, category or author
-- Wysiwyg tool for authors
-- Post titles in URL
-- Ability to also have static page editing (a nice to have, not must have)

SubText integration with existing website (With or without membership provider)

I have downloaded subtext to try out this blog software. After I unzip it, I double click SubtextSolution.sln to open the solution. When I run it, I got an error mesg saying,

A project with an Output Type of Class Library cannot be started directly.

In order to debug this project, add an executable project to this solution which references the library project. Set the executable project as the startup project.

How do I run this subtext software? Thanks.

I have download blogengine.net but when I went to save the setting, i got an error mesg saying,

An exception of type 'System.UnauthorizedAccessException' occurred in System.Xml.dll but was not handled in user code

Additional information: Access to the path 'C:\Documents and Settings\molweb96\Desktop\BlogEngine\BlogEngine.NET 1.2\BlogEngine.Web\app_data\settings.xml' is denied.

Anyone encountered this problem before? I have given full permission for app_data folder.

Problem with dotText ".Text" 0.95

First I want to say:
I have added a few enhancements to dottext from the original release. I am currently using FreeTextBox 3.1.2 to allow firefox support.

This however shouldn't cause the trouble I am experiencing.

Basically when I make a post in dottext, everything works wonderfully as long as the post doesn't contain alot of HTML.

If I have around 4 hyperlinks in a post, everything is golden.

However, lets say I make a really long post, which is several paragraphs and contains 15 hyperlinks.

In this situation when I click lkbPost to update or insert a new post, nothing happens after postback.

In firefox, the edit post page simply turns into a blank white page.
In IE, the edit post page gives error "You are not authorized to view this page"

The database is never updated.

I have tried to step through this in Visual Studio, however not code fires durring the lkbPost postback.

It appears that something is happening on the clientside.

If I update the text of the post manually in Query analyer, everything works wonderfully.
so it's not on the display end, only the insert end.

I am not sure exactly what is going on.

Any help would be appreciated.

I really enjoy .Text as a blong engine, Its just frustrating to have to use external apps to post.

I am having problems downloading .Text every time I hit ok to the dialog box and save it to my hardrive it ends the download at 0kb and I open it and get errors. Ive tryed to remove my temp files and my temporary internet files and have had no luck. Is there another URL I can download this from >?

I downloaded the .text package and the readme file says for download instructions I should visit http://dottextwiki.scottwater.com/default.aspx/Dottext.InstallationWalkThrough which doesn't seem to work. All i get is a large font saying "What?" in the upper right hand corner. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
