What I want is just user admin define a personalize web parts & let anonymous user see the result of what admin have been define.

Hi,

I've a user control as a web part. The user control contains a GridView control. I want to provide an editor UI that allows to select which columns to show. I don't want to add show/hide property for each column but a custom UI that shows in a checked list box which columns need to be shown. Or, even better, two list boxes with add/remove columns option. In either case, I could just show/hide GridView columns. How could I do that in a custom editor part ? Could I use a user control in an editor part instead of manually creating the controls ?

Also, I could add a custom web part verb to maximize a web part in a zone. How could I restore it back ?

Hello friends

Am developing a BackOffice website specialised for webmasters. So these webmasters are abministrators that will control the content of all pages of the main web site. So, once in the Back Office, the webmaster shuold b able to view the requested page in design mode automatically. And also there will be a list of custom webparts available. These webparts are from the database.

So my question is, how can i store a webpart in database in such a way that a webmaster can choose and add a webpart to a page.

Error Importing Web Part

Hey all, I am getting an error importing a web part. I have done Edit > View XML in the web part gallery and everything looks fine. I have checked and double checked the assembly reference and everything matches up the way it should. I have also added the correct namespace to the safecontrols in the web.config. I have commented out all my code and simply have in the CreateChildControls override this:

I can't preview it from the web part gallery, or add it to a page. The log in the 12 hive wasn't descriptive enough to warrant me looking elsewhere for the issue. Any ideas? All help is greatly appreciated.

webpart error with Ajax Timer Controls

Hello guys,

I seem to be having some error when I add the ajax Timer control to auto refresh an update panel in a SharePoint Webpart. I am building this webpart for Sharepoint. When I deploy this Webpart, I recieve this error :Script controls may not be registered before PreRender

Non-postback draggable zones?

I would like to inquire if it's possible to have a non-postback/partial postback when dragging usercontrols from one zone to another.

I've already tried adding UpdatePanel on my WebPartZone, but it seems it does not work.

Any ideas?

webparts with login page and no windows auth

Hello,

I have read many, many forum posts and code sections and have not yet found and answer to my problem.

I am new to webparts and I need examples or explanation on how to tie the personalization with my own home grown login page.

I currently check the user credentials from my login page against my db and then set a session with the users id and set login = true

Is there a way to tie personalization into my login part? How do I tell webparts the user Id I am using?

Example: How do I tell webparts that bobby is logged in and pull bobby's personalization.

How do I connect the user id I use in my db to the one stored in the personalization db?

ALso I want to stay away from cookies if at all possible.

This is what I have in the web.config

Its saving changes but across all users and not individually.

Ideas what I am doing wrong?

I am facing issue "The specified display mode is currently disabled on this page. Make sure personalization is enabled for the current user."

I have done following :

1. In web.config <authentication mode="Windows" />
2. I turned off anonymous domain access.
3. I tried to browse the page and it prompts me for user name and password. I gave it properly on and on but after 3 attempts it gave me "you are not authorized..." message.

Please note that we can not set <authentication mode="Forms" /> in web.config.

Please let me know if you require more info.

Problem loading controls to webpartzone dynamically

Hello All,

I am creating a page where users can compare models of phones. I am trying to use webparts. By placing the list of phones in one webpartzone and dragging them to another and comparing them.

I have the mobiles come from an external datasource(xml/database) so i will have to load them dynamically using code behind. So, i opted for user controls. so that i can display image and a label and treat is as a single control. And after dragging and dropping i can use the properties i write in user control and fetch the comparison details.

This is what i am looking for

Now, the problem is, when i try to add a control to the webpart zone, I get an error saying "WebPartZone" doesnot support child controls.

I have two queries.

How can a user control be added to the WebPartZone Dynamically

Is there a better way to do this? Other than web parts.

Closing a web part causes script error related to ValidationSummary control

Hi,

I'm having trouble finding a solution for a script error I am getting closing a web part. It seems that the script error is related to the ValidationSummary control on the web part that is being closed. The error only occurs when the edit modal pop-up on it has been opened.

Here is the page set up:

I have a page that contains a web part manager and several web part zones.

In one of these web part zones I have a custom user control that displays read only information.

On the custom user control there is an edit link, which opens a modal pop-up that contains a couple of validation summary controls.

If the user control is edited (i.e. the modal pop-up is opened and closed) and then the containing web part is closed a script error occurs. The script error found is "Microsoft JScript runtime error: 'document.getElementById(...)' is null or not an object" on the following line of code "headElements[0].appendChild(scriptElement);" in the ScriptResource.axd file. The scriptElement object contains javascript referencing the validation summary control in the web part that is being closed.

Hope this makes sense. Any advice is welcome.

Web Parts Zoning???

I have 3 web part zones (A,B,C) and each one has a user control (1,2,3)

Is there a way that I can control them in such a way that uc1 can only go to A & B and uc2 can go to A&C zones respectively?

HttpException Creating Control Outside Web Part

web parts for site personalisation

I have an eCommerce web site and want to change the content of certain zones on the home page - for special offers and so on.

Basically I want my marketing people to be able to change this, but the end user just to see the page.

It seems to me that web parts should be able to do this, but I'm struggling to find how I can have my marketing people make the changes and the end users just see them.

To make matters slightly more complicated, I have (at least) two classes of user and each would want to see different layouts (all users are anonymous - the class is determined by a Querystring on entry to the site - in effect referred users see something different).

I've googled this and spent a bit of time looking at samples, but I still don't have any real idea if this is hard or easy. Can anyone point me to resources?

Webparts for an enitity that is stored in db

I am building a website that hosts multiple little shops advertised on it. each shop needs to use web parts to personalise there own page and the a list of shops, the page is then viewable to non-authenctied users.

Is it possible to store how the web parts are stored and their custom content (such as a paragraph or 2) in a database?

The class retrives the data but does not update.

Web Application Projects and the ProfileCommon NOT working

Hi all,

We swapt to Web Application Project because that works nicely together with sourcegear. We run into the following problem.

I'm retreiving some profile information of a specific user by:

Dim u As MembershipUser = Membership.GetUser(gvUsers.SelectedRow.Cells(2).Text)
Dim p As ProfileCommon = Profile.GetProfile(u.UserName)

and then i have control over the users profile
p.<property>=value
etc

This works fine when i'm not using a 'web application project' But when i use this project type i get a 'type profile common not defined' .. I have attached all in my opinion relevant namespaces.

So any thoughts on this or a nice workaround how to get hold of the profiles from another user.

Webpart Mode Error : ASP.NET

I've created user controls and am displaying them in various webpart zones on a web page and whenever i select the edit mode it should allow me to edit the web part properties. Every thing is working fine on my locals system, but when i deployed it on remote machine it is giving the error below :

The specified display mode is currently disabled on this page. Make sure personalization is enabled for the current user. Parameter name: value

So, I have changed the authentication mode to forms and i've included the below in the web.config

After including the above the above in the web.config , it is working fine but is randomly giving the error.

Using AJAX Extenders on Web Parts

I'm trying to attach extenders to a server control that's inside a webpartzone (ex: slideshowextender linked to image control).

I'm encountering an error that "the TargetControlID is not valid. A control with ID could not be found"

Hey guys i am trying to come up with a way o can make a few of my pages easy to edit just as being admin. what i was thinking is have the user control dropdown thingy hidden for everyone except admin. i have already made the close button to False so they cant close it out. if there is an easier way to do this please by all means let me know. the only time i get the Edit button in my drop down list is when i am on the Default page(only one that has webparts) so i can not edit any other page, even though it is in the <asp.content> div. i a noob so please be gentle. my brain hurts from watching all these tuturials to no avail.

Issues With Profiles on IE8 only

Howdy All,

I'm having an odd issue with Profiles on IE8 only and so far cannot find any info on the topic.

This issue is only occuring in my Live env as well and not in my dev env. You can see the issue here;

If you click on either of the prints on the right hand side then, click on add to cart under the large picture.
You will see the cart price (on the upper right) now reflects the change.
Then if you click on the other print (not the same, I have to fix that pathing) you will see the cart value is now empty again.

This does not occur in Moz or Chrome or in IE8 when testing locally.

Any info would be great.

asp:menu bug in IE

I have a problem with the <asp:menu> component.

In IE, when the page has vertical scrollbar and asp:menu appears below the visible area, the subitems appear before the menu itself.

BUT, it just happens when there's no DOCTYPE defined in the masterpage.

Unfortunatelly i can't put the doctype in the masterpage because i'am using MOSS and when i put the DOCTYPE declaration in the masterpage, the whole application layout turns into trash, if you know what i mean.
