Remote debugging in VWD Express?

Hi, I've built a site in vwd express 2008 and is hosted remotely on server running IIS. When I try to debug I get the following error:

Unable to start debugging on the web server. Remote debugging is not supported.

I've enabled debugging in IIS.

Any ideas?

Design Mode - Objects keep moving to the left side of the screen

I created a seperate DIV and placed all of my labels/textboxes etc in it so that i could keep them on the right side of the page. When i preview my project in IE everything looks correct..But when i go back into design mode in vwd everything is bunched up on the left side of the screen. Is there any way to stop this?

The screenshot is about 2M so im just going to post a link to it here

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Also is there a way to hide the datasource objects? I hate seeing them on my screen.

Code Formatting - Visual Web Develper being naughty??

Hi,

I always like to format my code so that I can simply see what is going on - as I'm sure most people do. Sometimes when using VWD, I load up my project only to find that for some reason all of my code formatting has been messed up due to white space being removed for some reason.

Has anyone experienced any issues with VWD reformatting their code and know how to stop it? I just spent an hour reformatting my code to restart VWD and find that it has messed it all up again and its very annoying.

Visual Web Developer Publish Problem

Trying to Publish a web project to a local directory. When click on the menu Build/Publish I get:

Unable to add 'Default.aspx' to the Web site. Unable to add file 'Default.aspx'. Access is denied.

And a bunch more like this in the Output window and nothing publshes. Obviously a permissions problem but what? I am running as an administrator and the folder has full administrator rights.

I have never used the Publish thing before.

Cannot save changes to site.master from within VWD Express 2008

Hi Guys,

I've just installed Blogengine.net using the application called Web Platform. I'm now currently working on the site.master file of my downloaded theme using VWD Express 2008. Unfortunately, I cannot make changes to the page. Everytime I save it, it always returns an error message telling me that "The operation could not be completed.". The same goes for the CSS file. As a temporary fix, I am currently saving both of the files to another directory then later manually transferring them to the inetpub folder. This is a very time-consuming process and I do really hope that someone can help me with this problem. I am looking forward to hearing from you guys soon. Btw, my OS is Windows 7 Home Premium.

Web Site Administration Tool Problem

Hi,

The application has been designed with VWD 2008. It runs great on the local machine where it has been designed. The database is residing on SQL Server 2005. Role membership tables and procedures have been placed in the same database by running aspnet_regsql. Problems began after moving the web site to production. Application menu does not display and authorization by roles does not work. I tried to use Web Site Administration Tool to check a security setting and got a message:

"There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store.
The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: Item has already been added. Key in dictionary: 'AEskende' Key being added: 'AEskende' ". The error page has button "Choose Data Store". After clicking this button and selecting link "select a different provider for each feature" I navigated to the page with 2 selected radio buttons (MembershipADProvider and RoleManagerSqlProvider). Test the role provider was successful.

Search for mentioned above error has not given any results at all. Has anybody had similar problem? How it can be fixed?

Does the video resolution affects ajax template?

I have a mini Compaq with a video resolution 1024x576 and i am not able to create an AJAX enabled web site. I have installed VWD 2008 express edition with .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 but i can not create , even does not appears on VWD when i fire up.

Does somebody have an idea about this problem?

I am working on a project in Visual Web Developer 2008 Express and having a problem that I think might be related to VWD's Copy to Website tool.

I am following this tutorial on the official asp.net site (http://asp.net/learn/data-access/tutorial-01-vb.aspx), which explains how to use Table Adapters and Typed Dataset.

I believe that I followed the steps in the tutorial pretty closely, except that I am using a database I already have instead of the Northwind database.

I used the Copy to Website tool to copy all of my files to my webserver, including my .aspx & .vb files and well as the contents of my App_Code and App_Data folders. However, when I try to open my .aspx page on my webserver, I get the following error message:

What leads me to believe that the problem is somehow related to VWD's Copy to Website function (or at least related to certain files not getting uploaded to my web server) is that the VWD recognizes

DuesDataSetTableAdapters and DuesDataSetTableAdapters.EmployersTableAdapter as valid objects (when I start tying in the name of those objects, the full name appears on the list of valid objects that VWD provides).

I've spent a lot of time searching for a solution to this problem, but I'm stumped. Other people have posted about a similar problems and it seems like the result was a .dll file that was not uploaded to their web servers. However, it is my understanding that with Visual Web Developer 2008 express, .dll files are not created for each new class and you just need to make sure that the App_Code folder is uploaded to web server. Is that true? If not, where do I find the .dll file for my new class and where do I have to put in on my web server.

If anyone can offer any help or insights in this problem I would really appreciate it.

Visual Web Developer Express 2008 isn't opening web site properly.

Hello, I have been trying to create a retail website for some time now. I started making an HTML version of it in word pad. Now i'm moving on to the database side of things and so I decided to get Visual Web Developer (along with SQL Server Express 2008). I'm currently reading a book called "SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Starter Kit" by a company called Wrox and hopefully this will teach me a lot about SSE e.t.c. As you can tell I'm an amateur!

Anyway onto the problem at hand. The website which i created in Word Pad doesn't load properly when I import it into VWD. Some Divs are in the wrong position e.t.c. It seems as though VWD is loading the page in a browser much like IE6. When testing the HTML site on my server, everything loads perfectly in: IE8, Firefox 3.5, Safari 4, Chrome and Opera. I haven't tried it in any other browsers.

Access Denied When adding a DB to App-Data

I am running VWD 2008 Express and SQL Server 2008 Express.

I am running as an Administrator. My OS is Vista Business

I Have created a database with 4 tables. The tables are empty.

I have created a project in VWD and am trying to add the DB to my App-Data folder.

When I click the App-Data, add an existing item and navigate to my database folder and click on the database .mdf file I get an "Access Denied" message.

How can I get around this?

Cant see layout in designmode (includefiles ASP)

Hi everyone I usually work with .NET c# pages but have some projects I have to get sorted in classic ASP and now to my problem.

Im used to work alot with the design-mode and now I cant see anything of my layout due to its build so it includes alot of classic asp-pages like this:

It thinks its "commented html" so in my design-mode Its just very very empty

Anyone have suggestions on how to make it "understand" that it should include and show the files or do I have to get my hands on dreamwaver wich my co-workers work on, there the "design-mode" works like a charm.

VWD 2008 Manipulating sql database

Hey all,

Does anyone have sample code of a asp.net site subitting a form to an sql database.

I'm trying to create an extremely simple work order system I was able to use gridview to pull info from the database & edit it. Now i want to create my own form and use a button to submit the form /work order and save it in the datase.

Does anyone have a simple example of how i can create the form (a simple text box & submit button would be fine) and insert that into a database?

Where are the tools?

I'm trying to migrate from VB 5.0 to Visual Web Developer 2008 Express. I want some of my old tools, such as Rectangle, Ellipse, and Line, for drawing.

The Tool Box, under the heading "General", says "There are no usable controls in this group. Drag an item onto this text to add it to the toolbox." Drag from where?

In the menu, under Tools, I see the option "Choose Toolbox Items", and in that list I see RectangleShape and LineShape with checkboxes unchecked. I check them and click Okay. I close and reopen the Toolbox. I still can't find LineShape or RectangleShape in it. I reboot the program and reopen "Choose Toolbox Items" and see that LineShape and RectangleShape are still checked. But they are not in the Toolbox. Where are they?

publishing VWD 2008 express edition WEBSITE....

I have just installed VWD 2008 express edition on my pc. As you know there are two options one is CREATE PROJECT and the other is CREATE WEBSITE.... I can buld and deploy PROJECT easily using the menu...

But I could not build my WEBSITE.. there is no BUILD or PUBLISH menu like projects. Ok... Maybe I can put all the files to the FTP but in that case I think my source code can be taken easily by anybody....

Setting up established web site in VWD

Hi there,

I'm after some advice.

I'm a self-taught (using the Microsoft ASP.NET website and forum) 'casual' webdeveloper/c# programmer and have made a few simple database-driven websites from scratch.

I've been asked to make a few simple changes to a fully established database-driven asp.net website that is online. The guy who owns the website knows nothing about the development environment it was made in (or web developing) and is no longer in touch with the guy who made it the site.

I've downloaded the files and database from the online server, and I'm trying to set it up in visual web developer 2008 express edition, Framework 3.5.

Its compiling, but I keep getting errors such as:

The type or namespace name 'DefaultLayoutMain' does not exist in the namespace 'StockHill.Web.MasterPages' (are you missing an assembly reference?)

My question is: why will the website work fine online but not in visual web developer? It doesn't look like there is anything complicated about the website, and I've downloaded other websites without a problem. Can it be very tricky tranferring websites that have been made in something like dreamweaver?

Any advice much appreciated

Design view displays blank page

I'm relatively new to VWD and am using the Express version. My web site is simple with a few connections to SQL Server data and to XML documents just to populate controls to display data. After adding a new web page, linking its controls to an XML document and running it successfully, I discovered that I can no longer display the page in the Design view, I just get a blank screen. To further confuse things I opened my root master page, which appears just fine. I then opened the master page derived from this root master and it shows me content placeholders but not the controls inside the content placeholders. If I have one of the master pages open in VWD and then I open the base page, I now see the data from the root master page but nothing from the base page or the derived master page.

I think I'm doing something basically wrong but I don't see it. Before I start deconstructing my web site I'm hoping someone can help me. I have looked at a lot of posts on this site but I don't see one that answers my problem. I did see the one about style and links and their ordering in the aspx file, but this isn't my problem as I currently have neither of these in use.

When I try to create a "New Website" and choose empty website ... two folders are created.

So I try to create a site with name d:\path\sitename

Then two folders are generated

d:\path\sitename and d:\path\sitename (2)

Is this normal?

i installed IIS in my computer and i am trying to call my home page which is located in to the inet pub/www.root..

i gave the address like this http://localhost/prod/home1.aspx

where prod is in www.root ..

but it shown this error message

Can not open test page

I try to make my first site in Visual Web Developer (Visual Studio 2008 ).

To test the site I used ASP.NET. Development Server (press CTRL + F5 to run the page).

http://www.localhost.com:2124/WebSite1/Default.aspx
This is normally worked, but now does not work. I get :

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading (Firefox).

It’s the same case with Internet Explorer.

I do not know reason why I can not now open the page.

Can you give me some advice on how to solve this problem. I have tried to find a solution in forums.asp.net but I have not found.
