Totally true.

Everyone: please always start a new thread if issue is not exactly like the original one. This thread was about lack of multiple selection. MS is now there. If you find a bug, please start another thread since otherwise everyone is getting e-mails including those who are not seeing any problems and may not be interesed at all.

You may be having an issue with VS not getting enough idle time b/c some other application keeps OS busy. Are you using Wireless Laser mouse by any chance? One if the indication of lack of idle time is that document outline never populates. For example, open ASPX or HTML file in Source view, then do View | Other Windows | Document Outline. Leave IDE alone, don't move mouse or type anything. See if outline appears several seconds later.

Hi Mikhail,

1. I have tried selecting two asp.net buttons.

2. Yes I tried on an empty page by selecting two asp.net buttons, it does not work.

3. It does not work for plain HTML controls(buttons) either.

4. If I click on dropdownlist in properties windows, it shows me Document, Button1 & Button2

I should say I generally face problem with properties window for single selection(only at times), at times it becomes blank and even the dropdown list in properties window seems to be empty and it starts to work either after switching between Source & Design or swapping selection across controls.

Actually, properties window is supposed to work, as could be see in screenshots here http://blogs.msdn.com/webdevtools/archive/2008/06/12/multiple-control-selection-in-visual-studio-2008-sp1-rtm.aspx. However, apparently some people experience issue with the properties window going blank. Few questions

1. Which controls are selected?

2. Have you tried same controls on an otherwise enmpty page - does it work?

3. Does it work with plain HTML controls?

4. If you click on the dropdown on top of the properties windows - what is in it?

I have the same issue. The ability to apply property to multiple controls in the Properties window IS NOT included !! Everytime I select a second control, the property window goes blank !

Design functionailty that I've been using since Access 97 (and possibly before), finally makes it into VS2008.

Thanks for making the effort, Mikhail and not letting us wait until 2010.

Mikhail,

This seems like the thread that won't die since I started it last year. It's good to see that multi select is back, albeit in limited form. I can take a look now at whether going to 08 for my larger projects makes sense. The equation is the usefulness of javascript intellisense vs the inconvenience of a limited multi select (with no multi select it was no contest. My forms typically have a lot of text boxes lined up like obedient soldiers; not much artistry but gets the job done in biz apps).

In terms of quickly putting together a web page with a lot of controls, especially text boxes, what is MSFT's alternative to multi selecting, dragging, and dropping. If there is a different approach to this issue I would be interested in investigating.

Hi Mikhail,

It was two asp buttons that I had selected, the properties show up for the selection of one button but not multiple buttons. I am not sure if it's only my PC. But I have problems sometimes with single selection though and I just swap few selections across objects, it works again then for single selection.

This looks like a different issue to me - it actually supposed to work, having multiple selection without properties window working is not very useful. For example,

shows working properties window. You may want to start a separate thread on this. Perhaps something else is selected, like HTML button or a div element so there are not common properties? Does properties window work properly with single selection, i.e updates timely, etc?

SP1 DOES support changing properties on multiple objects. CSS properties window does not work with multiple objects, but regular Properties window does work. You can assign inline styles and classes there if that is what you mean.

SP1 lets you to mutiselect objects but it does not allow to change any properties for mutiple objects.

I expect it to be fixed soon though, someone else might be able to give you an update if you post a new thread.

Before I start a large download, is that correct?

Is multi selection back with SP1 ?

If not, is there anyway I can convert a VS2008 project back to a VS2005 website - I had made a whole heap of changes before I discovered this omission and I have no intention of continuing web development with 2008.

What a waste of time and money!
