Hi when I tried to install the toolkit I got this error message due to my company firewall settings which prevent me from running the VS Development Server.
"Unable to connect to Visual Studio's Localhost Web Server"
The bad news is I can't convince my IT department to investigate this. The good news is I can run IIS on my local PC to create VS2005 websites. Is there any other way I can run the toolkit setup without using the VS Development Server?
Wow - that's surprising. Are you sure it's the company firewall and not something to do with Windows Firewall on the local machine? Let me find someone who knows more about this stuff, maybe they have a suggestion.
Just so I'm clear - this means you can't use the dev server for any ASP.NET 2.0 work right?

Correct "I can't use the VS 2005 DEV Server for any ASP.NET 2.0" it refused to launch the site. I got is an error message as stated in my post. However if I create a site using Http to my local IIS then I am OK. I can't even use the Site Settings to
setup the Security because it's using Dev Server instead of my local IIS. I have a personal notebook PC, I used it to setup my security and copy the files over to my work PC.
As for the toolkit, I can use my personal PC to install it, but I rarely have time at home to do any thing so I am hoping to be able to install it on my work PC. But each time I run the setup it tried to launch the Dev Server and thats where I got the error
message.
Well do the controls work? The webpage that comes up looked like the documentation thats online.
I can't pass the install the tookit steps so I can't tell if the Controls work or not. Is there anyway I can install it without using the VS Dev Server?
The Toolkit install starts the ASP.NET Development Server at the end as a convenience. However, it's not required and failure of the server to start does not mean the Toolkit wasn't installed correctly. Installation is simply
extraction of a set of files to the directory you specified during install. You can browse to that directory and configure the SampleWebSite directory to show up under IIS and the sample web site should work just fine for you.
Thank you David, when I encountered the error message on my work's pc I stop there and used my home PC insted which does not have the error message. But since you've mentioned that the installation went ok then excellent I can't wait to use the tool kit
from my work PC going forward. Many thanks.
When I do the following: I have extracted the ATLAS files to a folder. Next in VS 2005 I add a tab and choose Choose items, then on the .NET Framework components tab I click Browse. I doubleclick the AtlasControlToolkit.dll and then I get the following error:
There was an error loading types from assembly 'c:\tmp\AtlasControlToolkit.dll' 'Could not load file or assembly Microsoft.AtlasControlExtender, Version=1.0.60504.0,Culture=neutral,Publickeytoken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot
find the file specified.
I use VB.NET, not sure if that matters since all the samples are in C# (why ont provide the VB.NET version as well?).
please mark answers as 'Answered' and post back solutions when you figure stuff out that isnt in the post already.
As installed, Microsoft.AtlasControlExtender.dll should be in the same directory as AtlasControlToolkit.dll. What, exactly, are you trying to do here, though? This thread is about being unable to install the Toolkit, but if you've
got the files on your disk, then it sounds like it's installing fine, right? If so, then does the sample web site work for you or not? Thanks.

Under my IE LAN settings I have this line.
Use automatic configuations "http://intranet.wcna.prd.wcus/internet_proxy.pac"
I tried to disbled it and checked on Bypass Proxy on local... and Automatic detec settings. Same result.
I tried on other PCs at work same result so I am think my company Firewall or whatever it is prevented the VS Dev Server from running.
Any help is much appreciated.
