    Hi,

I want to start learning the new Atlas March CTP but I am a bit worried. My Win XP with VS 2005 is working without flaws now. And I want to keep it that way!

If I install the March CTP is it easy to uninstall if I get any problems? And when the next CTP arrives, is it possible to simply install that over the march CTP? Are CTP's stable, can they affect a stable OS or VS?

Or do you guys have it on Virtual PC's?

    Thanks in advance!

Atlas CTP installation is quite simple, doesn't affect global namespaces. I don't think it'll interfere with anything except web application that uses Atlas, not even an aplication, just pages that include Atlas code. Clean stuff, a bit buggy though :)

Anybody have a detailed answer for his question?

I am curious about Atlas but dont want to start using it for production projects unless

it is fairly stable and easy to update.

I've started using it quite extensively over the last few days. Have had no stability-related problems whatsoever. There are some features that don't quite work perfectly yet, but this is to be expected in pre-release software. The features that do work aren't going to stop working in future builds, so I wouldn't worry about starting to use them. Looks like development on Atlas is occuring at a fast pace as well, so hopefully there'll be more and more working features over the coming weeks.

    Hi,

it seems we'll be having a new CTP in April according to this blogpost.

I'm wondering about that Atlas Control Pack.

    Grz, Kris.

    hello guys.

well, in my opinion, it's more urgent to fix all those nasty bugs that add new controls. for instance, i've just noticed yesterday that the buggy behavior associated with the asp-net validators still persists (even though i've reported them here and on the feedback center). this is really annoying since it'll prevent us from using the validators with the updatepanel...

so, how are you guys fixing these nasty bugs? (i'm a little upset because fixing this manually implies doing it again on the next release...)

    Hi Luis,

Can you send me email regarding the validator issue you are seeing?  I can then help loop you in with someone to verify that we have it fixed for the April refresh.

    Thanks,

    Scott

P.S. Note that the focus with the April refresh is not on new features, but more to make sure we fix bugs people report.

Just to chip in here regarding part of the problems that we are seeing with validators. I've provided a real simple page and the problems I've running into with validators.

The code is posted on this thread

    http://forums.asp.net/thread/1245116.aspx

with my instructions to reproduce the error which Luis helped me with.

    Hello Scott.

here's a post where i reference several entries i've made on the feedback center:

    http://forums.asp.net/thread/1232072.aspx

i've only checked the 1st entry, and it was signaled with unable to reproduce the error...well, if you're using the march ctp there's nothing easier to reproduce thatn copying the page i've written. lookig at the code, it's obvious that the submission made by atlas doesn't take into account the state of the validators that may exist on the page :(

here are other posts with suggestions/bugs i've found till now:

this is related with the way firefox interprets scripts returned from the server side (opened officialy today, though i've pointed it ou in response to previous posts)
    http://forums.asp.net/thread/1247036.aspx

this is a request related with the way the atlas requiredfieldvaliadtor works. currently, it's useless since it only does its validation when a property changes (it should validate on the blur event and maybe trim the results so that - not validating in the blur is a serious bug because if i don't introduce anything on a textbox it's consered valid)
    http://forums.asp.net/thread/1245061.aspx

    thanks.

    Hi Luis,

I'll forward the above threads onto the team and ask them to comment.  We are also setting up a MSDN feedback center for Atlas shortly where people will be able to submit and track bugs in Atlas -- since that will make it much easier to both report issues as well as make sure they get fixed (right now we are finding them through forum posts, and since the volume of posts has been so much we sometimes miss things or don't get them tracked right).

Thanks again for all your help,

    Scott

What about installing a new CTP over an old, is it just click and go or do I manually have to remove files?

Hi Luis, I think I've addressed most of the problems you've mentioned in the other threads.

xaphod: To install a new CTP, first uninstall the old CTP from Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel. Then launch the new MSI and create new projects in Visual Studio, as you did before.

    Thanks,

    Eilon
