While unconfirmed officially - word from my sources that the CSK is not going to be upgraded for 2.0 as a MSFT sponsored starterkit.   DNN won out on the 'portal - content management' starterkit selection as MSFT really didn't want to be in the position of supporting an upgrade of a starter kit that we all know admittedly doesn't meet design requirements.

For those of us whom run a number of sites under the CSK and developed and tweaked it to run - we are all intimately aware with the short-comings and advantages of this particular starterkit.  I know Stephen has been working on his bare-bones implementation of a upgrade path, and there are a few others...with personal projects probably in progress.  I personally evaluated goiing to CS or DNN but neither of which fit my needs and in addition - switching to deifferent software - its a learning curve to customize new to not make it look like everyone elses.

My 'Cavalia Project' which if you have spent any time on my support site is my own upgrade path.  I am working on a base stock stock GCN version - trying to provide an easy upgrade - although admittedly I am finding myself re-writing a bunch of the code to support a slew of new features.  Already I have DAL layers implemented so support can be added for Oracle, MySQL or other DB formats.  I have revamped the Admin Tools section to allow for plopping Admin controls into actual section or content pages to tweak settings without having to go through the admin console for basic functions.  Everything is modular so implementing a MOD will be as easy as dropping in a new dll - no additional work is required if no changes to the database backend are required.

I am a bit hesitent in asking for additional help as I really do not believe in open source projects. Lotsa people have good intentions but follow-through is more important and for most of us this is a hobby.   However, I would like some assistance from those whom have some time to dedicate - and willing to step back and follow my lead.  Meaning I do not want people whom get involved in something and then decide that they have better ideas and the project comes to crawl or the task asked is delivered but its 180 degrees out of whack from what was asked....  While creativity is sometimes desired the goal with my conversion is to simply fix the issues the CSK has and provide the framework for better extensibility of the core framework by providing templates to other hobbyists so they can be empowered to contribute....

For some of the current updates of status see http://csk.wbcb.com and look under Cavalia on the main menu....

If interested - sign up on http://tech-review.org.  Please also provide some general information - such as how long you have used the CSK / GCN - and in particular any areas of the CSK you feel more comfortable with... as well as a reasonable expectation of time you can spend....
