I'm looking at using DNN 4.1 for one of our internal sites. I've created the site using the DNN 4.1 starter kit. It runs fine from VS 2005, but not when browsing to the site in IE. In IIS, if I right click on the site and choose browse, I get the "page cannot be displayed" error. However, if VS 2005 is running the site with it's own webserver, then it does work when browsing via IIS.

Using IIS 6 on Windows Server 2003/SP1

    IIS Properties:
    Description: DNN4
    IP Address: (All Unassigned)
    TCP Port: 8080
    Enable anonymous access: checked

Folder has NETWORK SERVICE, Full Control set

None of the other developers here can figure out what's wrong.

    Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

    Thanks,

    James

Is the portal alias different in IIS? If it is, DNN will "redirect" to the one was specified in the VS project. Therefore when the VS project isn't running, you get a page error. If it is running it will redirect to the Web Developer Host, and it will work.

    Hope this helps.

Am I asking the obvious? You have aspnet 2 framework setup don't you... . And assuming that you do - when you setup the site in IIS - you need to select the aspnet function that now appears to choose the framework -  - and select 2 from the dropdown menu if it's not turned on.

Perhaps you could try using IP address so the network can pick it up reather than unspecified.

    Just a couple of ideas.
