Sorry for the confusion, I wondered if my 'kudos' would be misinterpreted... Since the post is in the 'DNN' forum, I was praising our dear DNN developers on their work. However, you guys are doing a great job of making some great, great, changes, too. Plus your response to the 'search' function thread here, is really great. It's all getting better and better. Thank you very much for your hard work.

The problem that I see, however, is that when I go specifically to the DNN forum, I'm looking for something specific to DNN. Since I'm already in that forum, I want to be able to quickly search it without setting up parameters to narrow it down to the forum I'm already in. I guess that's the issue that I see, from a usability standpoint. I know I can search the specific forum (see the link I placed in one of my posts above) but it considerably slows me down for something that is probably the biggest thing I do in the forum. Maybe other forum users don't see it this way? Perhaps the DNN forum is unique in their visitation habits and how they use it? I wouldn't know the answer to that.

Again, Rob, thanks for all your hard work.

Yeah, I completely hear you. We'll get this fixed. It's in our benefit too -- less page requests on the server :)

Here's another thing I just noticed.  I selected the DNN forum to search (in the advanced search area), I typed 'copy site to new server', hit enter and my return results say:

    Showing page 3 of 40,817 (408,168 total posts) 8.392 second(s)

And the results that are being returned don't really have anything to do with me copying the location of a site.  However, I'm fairly certain I did this same search about 30 minutes ago and it returned great results.

I then went to the forums main page and typed in the same search there and the return results were:
    Showing page 1 of 12,394 (123,931 total posts) 6.007 second(s)

What do you make of this?

Unless you place the search terms in quotes, it will do an OR search on all the terms.

Filtering by the DNN forums + "copy site" returns these results.

Actually, I'd rather do a search on:
    +"copy" +"site"
instead. If I do as you suggest, I'll miss any post that says something like: "I tried to copy my site using..."

I understand the searching methodology, what I was really posing was that two different types of searches returned a different number of results. You'd think the "DNN" search would return fewer results than the generic "Forum" search on the same text. Instead, the DNN search returned a significant number more. Remember, I searched on the same text string for both searches.

Like I said, I can't explain that one.

Even better would be "copy site"~5

This will return posts where copy and site are within 5 words of each other.

I just had to find a thread I remembered from a day ago: the only way I could find it was to paste the relevant terms into my google toolbar, select the option to highlight the terms, and then page through the first 30 pages of threads :). I have paged through the first thirty pages at least ten times in the last two days, plus paged through certain threads about ten times... can someone do the math ?

How many posts does it take to get a dot in the post meter?

As has been mentioned before, only about half the site is indexed. It will be another couple of days until the site is fully indexed again.

"Unless you place the search terms in quotes, it will do an OR search on all the terms. "

.. why the decision to make OR the default? That seem counter-intuitive to how most folks search. I would stop using goggle if i were to go there and search for something like: asp.net vb module print and end up getting tons of OR'd returns. I tried that trick on my Grandma once. She came out to the porch and called for my sister and i to come in for supper, and my sister went in, and i pulled together my 6-year-old approximation of boolean logic and felt my Grandma was yelling for my sister OR me, and i continued playing. Seems my Grandma didnt' appreciate boolean logic Ü.. cheers, drew..
